the confusing part is that the boat wasn't even under sail... it was under engine power, he could have steered anyway he wanted, but instead, decided to turn in front of the ferry (which has right of way regardless)
if that was the front of the ferry then that small boat was heading dead ahead for it. I think the captain was either new or a moron.
