Comparing the WRX to an STI... if youre looking for performance. it makes much more sense to go with an STI...

Comparing an STI to a WRX

With the STI you get

Suede(ish) seats
6spd vs 5spd
2.5L vs 2.0L (until 06... 06 wrx comes with a 2.5)
Bigger turbo
Brembo 4 piston brakes
BBS wheels.
That godawful spoiler
Gages.
Bigger Intercooler with water spray.
Center differential with BIAS control (SWEET!!!)
Not to mention a crapload of suspension upgrades.
HID's

Not to mention, if you import the car from the US... an sti can cost you as little as 22k (USD)

If you want to save money and are interested in the STI. check the sale forums on NASIOC.

The wrx discussion , seems to have taken this thread off topic. and probably should be branched off into a seperate topic
mazdaspeed 6....now that is an interesting choice I think I had better take a close look at this......everything I have read about this car is good....just finding one for a test drive might be a chore...

One of the things worthy of note here is that , as I discovered, the jump in performance overal from the A4 to the S4 is huge and I have drivin them both now. The numbers here may not tell the whole story. The difference between the M3 and its less expensive siblings may not be as pronounced...but there is a difference.....

I would hands down select a STI over the A4....the A4 needs more power to become a compiteter here....however as mentioned there is a very big difference between the A4 and the S4....
mazdaspeed 6 looks like a nice car, but I'd box it in with an SHO over a the performance likes of the M3...

still tho... if the kids are late for school, the mazdaspeed 6 would easily rectify that problem.
not as quickly as the Caliber SRT... haha completley different classes of cars there.

I dont know if i'd put a turbo'd I4 up there with a german v8
I've yet to see the caliber srt's specs, but like the neon, I wonder if it would be lacking in the chasis department...

the mazdaspeed has a fairly well sorted chasis.. but I'm suspicious of it's AWD being FWD first, AWD when needed.

see new post, ill keep it seperate
caliber srt4 press release
My Opinion (but I'm not clean) :P

In order of preference...

STI
M3
S4
MS6
Just to clairify, I wasn't comparing a WRX to an STI....and I would take an M3 over an STI any day of the week, I see five times as many STIs as I do M3 (But I live in Winnpeg, not Toronto)

But the caliber is t3h Fast4r!

I'd go

M5
STI
S4
M3
WRX
MS6
Caliber...

If a car with auto trans was an option

300C SRT-8 would also be a nice choice.

or you could go with the benz C55 AMG
Well if were talking about other cars....

Twin Turbo kit + G35 =

If you gave people the choice between an 03 SVT or an 04 ZX5 SES for the same price, I think everyone here knows what the sensible choice would be, I don't think thats usually the case between the WRX and the STI.

theres an error in your equation... you forgot 1 factor

Twin Turbo Kit + G35 + Ontario = NO INSURANCE

hahaha i would definatley not want to pocket a total loss on a g35
<_<

Technically, I shouldnt be insured, either should 99% of the people on this baord.

Is that stopping us? :D
It stopped me!

haha my svt is competley insurable now. Unless a short shifter will void my policy :(

Aside from having to import parts from japan to install a deck in the g35. hopefully it will be my next car.
those were only guidelines.. take it up with your insurance company.
dad,Feb 9 2006, 09:50 AM Wrote:ok....since my ex has the focus I thought that this spring I would do something that I have wanted to do for a very long time....buy a factory hot rod.

now I have always been an STI fan and still am , however odd it may seem the insurence is much higher on it than an M3 or an S4.

so it will be one or the other.....my ceiling for money spent will be 60k out the door

just curious what your opinions are....I do prefer the M3 generally but I took an S4 out on the weekend......wow...totally changed my mind and am now finding it difficult to make a decision....

Take your $60G budget spend about 40 on the car below (taxes in) and use the rest to get some nice duds, a fancy watch, big ass TV and pick up chicks.

The car has two doors, has a European name, is supposed to come with 260HP, potentially AWD and should be all right insurance wise:

Volvo C30, on sale in Europe in fall 06 and everywhere else shortly after. Just get a beater till then. It "should" be at the Toronto Auto show.

P.S.: I'm sure it comes in other colours.
G35 is the shiz, Scooba. If you got one, hats off to you.

Given my experience, my order of preference on a car (had I the need to go out and buy one tomorrow):

G35
WRX
Newer Focus, most likely a used ST.

Of course, my experience with the Focus appears to have been in the lower percentile of all members here... I love the little bastard to death.

EDIT - while resisting the urge to derail the topic... I have a buddy locally if I want a tool in the STi to determine whether I'd really want one or not. He's a lucky bastard, that's for sure.
Well if you had tp use the car all year round I would opt for the S4. If it's just a summer car that you want to have tons of fun it go with this:

I drove this car @ Shannonnville Motorsports Park at the track and let me tell you this car is Hyde at teh track and on the street it's Dr. Jekyll. Completely different personalities depending on how you drive it, but so much fun either way.

Or even less expensive but still over 60G unfortunatly the Z4 M Coupe/Roadster with the same engine.
well....I have the nice duds now,and the watch and well as far the chicks are concerned ....what do you think a guy , in very good condition at the age of forty with a small but prosperous company......besides the car choice was never about that...at all.

as for the G35....I like this car alot , but unmoded it is just ok compared to an S4 or the M3....and I wont buy another car that I have to mod....exhaust for the sound that is it.....

as for the Volvo I looked at an s60....quite a car really but the whole volvo thing is putting me off for some reason....
