Im I the only one that is having that problem?? If anybody got that problem and goit and go it fix how much was that...only the synchro.
I got this problem, mostly at the track when i'm on it I usually get a scratch in my 1-2 shift. I had a 3rd gear scratch problem once and a while.

Here is the problem, to fix this they gotta remove the tranny and crack it open. The parts cost probably very little, it is the labour that will kill you.
Could you remove a transmission without going to a garage?? I mean like not having to jack the car up 8 feet. Can it be done just by jacking the car with jacks a removing the tranny??
Yes but its not easy like changing the oil pan or changing your alternator. It is VERY labour intensive, the tranny for 1 isn't the lightest and the clearances are very tight.

I for one would pay the $400-600 or so to have the tranny dropped and re-installed.
One of my buddie is a mecanic im just trying to get a hold of him and ask him if it's possible to do it at home.
before you even think of trying this I would see if and how you can properly and safely jack the car up atleast 3-4 feet to give you some clearance under the car to move and what not. Having the car only inches above your chest will only piss you off when you can't reach things. Like Hardkore said you're WAY better off getting a garage to do this for you or if possible try to find a "garage for rent" place where they provide the hoist and you do your own work. I know there are atleast 1 of those places in my area.

Good luck

Little problem...My car doesn't fit on a hoist!!! I need to do oil change in a pit garage.
your 3rd gear synchro sticks.

I hate that, I have it too. the transmission isnt moving at the same RPM as the engine and it grinds.

the problem solver: double clutch. or when your are roaring from 2nd to 3rd gear, dont FORCE the gear in, gently move it from 2nd into 3rd and the problem is solved. when downshifting, use gentle force from 4th to 3rd.

but yes if your pwning a honda boy, who cares about the synchro grinding a tiny bit, he cant hear it from 50 feet behind you.

now who's fault is that? :) I know it's sucks when you lower your car that oil change just got that much harder to do... even in the driveway

some garages might have a lower profile hoist so all that's needed is some wood and then bob's your uncle. Bring your own wood for better results heh

just dont ride it hard all the timeand youll prolly be fine.
ive had this problem happen early, like at 6000K and ford acknowledged it and they replaced the tranny, now its still did it from time to time, leading me to believe the trannys are just built crappy from the gechko. nothing really u can do but emptry the tranny fluid and fill it with royal purple or red line or whatever that special sh1t they advertize in the racing magazines. Ask FourFactor about this, hes very familiar, he even went the extra length and got his all fixed up though he paid for it

Yes, just because he runs a company called 4factor thats not doing too well doesnt mean hes dead... He's still a Ford Focus owner just like you and me.. he also used to be an active particpant on here at one time too, he even has more posts than scooba steve.
I havent heard from him since the DSCR days, and his website doesnt work (unless he's changed it). <_<

Maybe thats the reason his business isnt doing to well! ;)
