Top speed to HP is not a linear ratio.
Without modifications a stock Focus can only go "so" fast anyway because of it's CoD and the 130Hp (1st Gen) it has. Even ungoverned I am guessing it wouldn't be substancially more than 175 kph anyway, I'd say 200 kph would be a struggle and you'd need LOTS of road.
I know for fact took a fair mount of Montana real estate to get a 227hp car to it's governed top speed of 230kph. The first 200 were a snap but the last 30 took a while.
We've all seen that 1001hp Veyron needing miles and miles of perfect road to get to 400kph.
All i can say is that early in the morning on weekends 407 can very very "quick"

The catch is, if it is a legislated governor and you disable it.
Then it becomes a Criminal Code offense and that's bad, bad news

Its already against the law to change the governor on our current cars.

Really? Is that under the provincial HTA or a Federal statute?

Hell, even on a Sunday night around 6:30 you're taking your life into your hands going less than 115 in the
slow lane

Here, i fixed my comment
I think we should start a group buy on Valentine 1 :)
I know I had my 00 ZX3 Auto to 168 and didn't have the guts to go faster. On a proper track of course....
180km is the limter on the 2000 Focus and then it electonically backs it down to 175 km as for the turbo focus after my SCT I ran it up to 212km and still had about 1500 prm to go till top out, that was before this over 50 km street racing rule of course.
why don't they legislate us to have bubble force so we can't hurt ourself? why don't they spend their time to fix this stupid economy instead of debating stupid stuff?
it's mcguinty gov, who spent millions to change the logo of this great province just because a conservative gov put them in... go figure. got nothing to do? lets find a way to waste more money and time...
back to car stuff: there always after market limiter remover.
My Mustang was governed at 149mph...never took it that fast, but I did take it to about 220km's/hr in 4th once, then put it back in to 5th. The hood had already started trying to free itself of the hood latch above 170 though...so that was one of the deterrents of pegging the governor. I could only hit 170 in the Focus, which sucked, as this was in the Zetec's "sweet spot" for maximum hp.
The Escape, no idea...though I know it will do 150...never have enough balls to go faster anymore, what with the new laws in place, and being a dad now...
I hit 175 in the SPI on the way back from Oshawa to Toronto once (remember that convo, Kev? :P ) but that was with a few mods - intake, exhaust, 50% crank UDP. Otherwise, not sure I would have made it there. It got backed down about 10 KM/H and then started to creep up again.
In the Escape? Sufficiently quick enough to overtake 407 traffic ;) No governor hit yet.
They're putting a lot of backyard racers at risk here, as well as the larger elephant in the room of insurance on your motor vehicle while at the track - does it have it? Do you need to produce it at the time you pull into the pit for inspection? Can you have a "track vehicle" with insurance and no plates? What nice new revenue stream does this create for the auto insurance industry?
If amateur racing faces enough hurdles as to make participation unwieldly at best, I think a lot of amateur racers will be driven away from the sport. That can't be good for all forms of racing in Canada in the long run.
Hey NOS, you've got that newer version of the Duratec 30 in your ride, along with the 6 spd yes? I know that it's got about 30-35 more hp than my 06 with the older Contour engine in it...
Hey Ian - nah, it's an 08 - same engine and trans as yours. I'm quite happy with it, tho. We did almost 1800 KMs last week while on vacation - the damn thing is as happy at 140 as it is at 100. Of course, gas mileage suffers considerably, but... :P
The 2009 specs weren't finalized when I bought mine, so I don't really wanna kick myself TOO hard over it. And as per usual, Ford doesn't let you select all 6 gears individually - same as the Fusion and Taurus. So, in a sporting context the appeal goes away. Yeah, they're better on gas than the 08s as well apparently.
Would I get another? Not sure. Do I like the one I have now? Actually, yeah!
Well They already have 150KM limiter on all Chev pickups and Dodge pickups and vans.

Doesn't that have more to do with the tires they stick on those things?
I mean I've never heard of "performance" truck tires
NefCanuck
They do have them but the tires can go up to so many KMs anyways. It all depends on what they are rated for. Like mine are W 2nd from the top then you have the Y.
They would of done this along time ago if Speed was a major concern. Think about it.. If people suddenly can't speed anymore.. no more highway tickets.. less work for Policemen,Court workers.. Less revenue for the Municipalities off of tickets etc.. less fatalities and earning from those fatalities..
plus less fatalities mean they can't have as many deaths to help control the growing population.
The Government in itself has major issues, but at least Canada is better off than at least the states.. we don't borrow money left and right from every Country.
old thread but I know my car wouldnt go over 180km/hr, it governed out at exactly 180 (5th gear, 4500-5000rpm)
my srt4 was around 250kph and my srt8 was 269-270kph all test on a closed road of coarse........

Yea, it was a bunch of rich kids with drunk driver in a daddy supplied Audi up north somewhere, where the car went off the road/cliff and fell into a body of water.
Just another knee jerk reaction by a stupid politician and a father who wishes he could somehow turn back the clock of time.
Wonder how much money this father gave to Karagyannis towards supporting his run in the next election so he could draft up this bill.
There are more issues at stake and all these yahoos in parliament are concerned with are more laws against cars and trucks (like the 105 km/h limiters) and scheming up new tax ideas.
