My wiper arms are starting to look pretty rusty so I was thinking. I have some paint left over that is the same colour as my car so I was gonna remove the wiper arms, sand them down, prime them and then paint and clear coat them however I ran into a snag. I figured it was as simple as removing the cover, unbolt and pull...however when I unbolt and pull...the wiper doesn't let go. Has anyone done this mod. If anyone can offer any advice on this that would be greatly apreciated.
You have to pry them up. It may need a little lubricant to set them free, but a small pry bar under the wiper or flat head screwdriver should do the trick. There are just a little stubborn because both sides have teeth that mesh together and rust together. Add some white grease before putting them back on.

ok..guess I will bust out the industrial grease and attempt to get those buggers off. Thanks.
Put some oil or release agent on the splines, and then gently tap/hammer them all around with something like a mallet...that did the trick for me, combined with some gentle prying by hand...
make sure the wiper is down on it regular position. undo the bots, spray some wd40 then just hit the part where the wiper bend that will release the wiper from the splines. if you're gonna paint it, make sure to clean the arm with simple green to get all the wd40 off.
