hi, im a newbie on focus,i just bought my focus this may and planning to modify it, but im considering the weather here in north which cold season is longer than summer season. is it advisable to put Cold Air intake (CAI) in my car and what are the PROS & cons during the winter season. what oil you usually used for winter season for your focus and what brand of exhaust pipe you recomend.
i have no idea if modifying asian car is the same with american cars considering the weather here in the north.
apreciate for the help....
Where is up north for you? I run a CAI year round and I run up to Huntsville and it gets to -30c at times, no problem. Exhaust go MBRP. They are Canadian at considered to be one of the best.
I had a 2007 ZX5 and I ran the FocusSport Cool-Flo CAI all year round. Running it on a 2005+ Focus in the winter is easier than a 2000-04 as there's a splash guard under the front clip. The intake element then sits over the guard, tucking in behind the driver's fog light.
Exhaust-wise, definitely go MBRP. It's a wicked setup.
How far north is "north"? I'm in North Bay, ON.
Ahh yes, oil. I had Mobil 1 in the Focus, and I have Mobil 1 again in my Escape. It's great stuff!
I've had a CAI on my car since about a month after I bought it in 2005. Have had no problems with winter or anything.
And MBRP is the way to go.. its also 4 years old and not a single problem. The quality you receive with the price you pay is better than anything out there as far as I'm concerned.
As far as oil, I Mobil 1 5w-20 synthetic year round.
K&N CAI year round ...nice turbo like sound when it's cold ;)
youre in barrie arent you?
i personally go there a lot in the winter and the snow can be deep, when i ran cai in the winter it would get covered in snow and not perform to well...having said that i didnt have a bypass valve on it.
i usually switch the rai in, in the winter then you have no problems.
i also have the mbrp and i love it. you can hear it tomorrow (i love the back pressure). oil, 5w30 full synthetic works great for me. but barrie gets a lot colder than it does here in mississauga
Yeah, but Gabe's is a Shortie. Just like my K&N Typhoon. "Real" CAI's snake all the way to under the front bumper.
I had 5W30 in mine just before and I got horrible fuel miliage. Car did run a little smoother though.
My engine has been taking a ass kicking lately though too.

I suspect you are the northern-most member on here ... so ... and forgive my southern ignorance - is all your snow gone yet?
And where exactly in the Yukon are you ... I know enough to know it's a very big territory.
Yes , it's true mine is a short ram , I decided to buy this one exactly because the amount of snow during the winter in my area . Actually a few years ago when I went to Wonderland Park it started to rain cats and dogs so we had to leave early . Because everyone wanted to leave at about the same time , they put a few guys for traffic directing , but they were standing in the water up to their knees (in the parking lot ) so while driving out , water came up to my windshield in a couple of areas . Luckily I didn't get any water in the engine . Back then I still had the original air filter box with snorkel setup . wheew !
