So the fiancé has decided to take a weekend away from all the wedding planning and booked a suite in Ottawa in Mid June.

I don't want to be staring at parliament hill all weekend so throw some ideas my way.

Thanks guys
LOL< watch out for my failed marriage! That's the last place it was seen before it dsappeared!

Rideau River P.P. was a nice place to stay - would have been nicer if the FAILboat hadn't landed by then.
good resteraunt, in the "market area", called Social. My son is a cook there.
Check out the market for sure. Lots of nice night spots there.

Dow's lake is pretty cool. You can rent a canoe, kaya, or paddle boat and go around the lake, its right downtown so that would kill some time for sure. The GF will think its pretty romantic also. ;) Theres a really nice posh night club there, I think its called lago or something like that, last time I went we had bottle service and got kicked out, so the night is blurry.

Lots of musems around town also, google is you're freind here. ;)

I'll let you know if there is any car shows you can attend. I'll have to check the local clubs boards for that though.

For late night eats, Elgin street diner is good and fast. Their putines are fawkin awesome. Smoke meat poutine...mmmmmmmmmmm.....Im hungry now!
Are you driving? You could go cruise Gatineau Park. Nice driving. Good picnic areas too.

It all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to spend the weekend in town going to clubs, shopping, and eating, or do you want to hit museums, parks, etc.?

The War Museum is a pretty good afternoon, but not overly romantic. :D

Where are you staying in Ottawa? We could give some recommendations within walking/stumbling distance... :P
Yaa we will be driving, Ill check with her on where were staying. As for google I can get on any travel sites here at work so kinda stuck there but I did send myself some links to check out at home. But I wanted to hear from you local guys since you know whats up. and no car shows she'll kill me unlesssss i acidentally find it lol
My wife enjoyed the Museum of Civilization (technically in Hull but just across the bridge) ... and I enjoyed the War Museum, although it can get a bit heavy at times, and then there's the new National Art Gallery - a great place to see even if you're not into art.

My sister-in-laws parents own a chain of pizza places called Colonnade and IMO the food there is great and pretty reasonable to boot.

Ottawa is one of our favourite places to visit - I'm sure you'll have a great time. I can't recall the exact time of your visit, but there's nothing better than Canada Day in Ottawa and the best is to do one of the river tours.
As if! Colonade is one of my fav pizza joints. Fawkin AWESOME pizza!
Depending on which weekend you're coming, the Ottawa International Dragonboat Festival is taking place on the 20th at Mooney's Bay. It's always a huge turn out with over 200 boats. If you watch, check for my team, the Paddle Demons.

I would definitely recommend renting bikes or bringing rollerblades, and going for a bike/blade along the canal or the Ottawa river parkway. If you're into mountain biking at all, Gatineau Park is really close and has a good variety of trails.

If you go to Gatineau Park, I would recommend checking out the ruins of Carbide Wilson. It's not a bad hike at all, and it's really nice. Also, your GF might like something like McKenzie King estate...

I would agree with everyone, check out the Market, but don't limit yourself to just staying downtown. Little Italy on Preston street is really nice too. There's an awesome pub there called Pub Italia with something like 300 different types of beer... plus, it's not often you get to experience drinking beer in a church pew :)

And my favourite restaurant is in little italy, it's called Stoneface Dolly's. Awesome food!

I agree with ZTW... the war museum is the best museum in Ottawa by far.

If you have any other questions, I live right downtown, so I know the area pretty well

So we booked a hotel near Slater St and O'Connor. How downtown is that? Walking distnace to anything?

Any car shows going down June 13-14?

Im actually looking forward to this tour

Its about a 15 walk to go from the market to the elgin street bars.

45 minutes when Im stumbling from market bars to elgin street bars.
Ottawa has two downtowns: Fun downtown (the Market) and business/gov't downtown (Slater/Albert)

Plenty to do within walking distance. The canal is right there, as well as Rideau Center is like 5 minutes away. Plus, Parliament Hill is about 2 minutes away. The Casino de Lac Leamy is about a 10 minute cab ride away too.
So am in the fun downtown? Bonus didn't know there was a casino around. Is there any clubs/lounges you guys can suggest?

and thanks Nate for taking all my fun thoughts of that bus lol looks like they have it down pack though that was in 2002 and I haven't read up on anything bad since then.
Do you like clubs or pubs? Ottawa has more pubs than clubs me thinks, its been a while since ive done any of that though....I like to stay local lately.

Your not far from the market, so just go there on a Friday/Sat night and find a place.

lol - I wouldnt worry about the lady dive tour, go have fun man. I was just buggin.
Me Im not picky just give me a beer but I can see the girls wanting to do some dancing.
