Can car alarms accept any kind of input sensor?

Say you had a motorhome or power boat and rather than a shock/motion detector like most car kits had you wanted to use a passive infra red (PIR) sensor like you have in a house, something like:

Would it work?

(PIR sensors are typically 9-24VDC so that is not a problem)
i believe they have special motion/prox sensors just built for cars.

Yup, the convertible car alarm systems have motion and proximity sensors.
I would thing a household PIR would not work for a motorhome. It might be too sensitve to the homes movement, either inside ppl movement and/or wind. The input points on the alarm would likely accept dry contact points, so 'technically' yes it would work.
