This is retarted...

I went down to go drive to vball, and the car won't start.

Alarm works, car's interior lights, headlights, dash, etc all power up. Go to turn the ignition and the car just goes *click**click**click**click**click**click**click**click* while the advance trac light flashes.

dam!

any thoughts? think it sitting down in the basement for a month could have killed the battery?

dam!
Sound like the battery is low on cranking power try boosting it.

Wan't a boost? I have no plans I am close and have many portable "booster" packs charged and ready to go.

no kiddin' eh?

I wonder if he ever has to buy his own rum...

HUGE dam THANKS MAN!

[edit]nope... not the battery. sounds like the starter is making the clicking noise. unless there's a very loud relay burried underneath the front of the car's underside.
Steve you are in a CAR CLUB, "that's what friends are for" *sniff*

Besides you bought me wings at the last meet, it's karma.

I have heard that sound before but just not as loud. It's your starter but I didn't recognize it because a car starter motor is much bigger and louder than a 550cc bike.

Try Googling the "hammer tap" thing I mentioned or wait for one of the "experts" to pipe up. It may be a thing you only did with old school cars?
yeah.... I was looking it up at focaljet, and dude had a ground problem that was causing the fast clicking noise.

But all the indicator lights dimmed and fluctuated.. .that's not the case with my car. all the lights stay on.. no problem.

I thought it could be this, with the clicking coming from underneath the car, since both the battery and the starter are there... I dunno.. very odd.
hammer time

I am trying to remember the name of the solenoid............starter solenoid i think, that used to be near the battery that could cause this problem. Thats' the cheap fix if it is that. We used to use a screwdriver to jump the cars if it was a problem. But this was 15 years ago and I don't know if it can be done like that now or not.

And I think the starter solenoid is now in the starter itself..........but what the fuk do I know!
Flashback to 1980's. Yes that is it the "starter solenoid", my Kawasaki went through a few. We finally grafted in a 750 Suzuki one and never had a problem again.
I'll call a tow truck tomorrow... let bay ford take a look at it. Have them do the 30,000 km and maybe an alignment (and maybe winter tires) while it's there.

had to be done sooner or later, and hey.. I won't have to drive the car down there :P
starter my ass.. i know what really went down at steve's place

DP: oh no my car won't start

*ding dong*

2001ZTS: hey buddy.. i've got the tool for this job

*cue porn music*

Hey look at it this way: at least if the starter is shot the car can't be jacked by Dean.... er... someone trying to steal it...
Did you try boosting it? Sounds like a low battery. lights would not get too dim if it doesn't have the juice to engage the starter. It's the cheapest thing to try. You'll end up with weird dash lights etc with a low battery.

we tried boosting it, but no dice.

This sounds like a job for ford roadside assistance.
Would installing a beefier starter help you on the future?
Naz, your reply was perrrrfect.

Steve, isn't your car a standard? Why didn't you get Andrew to push you from the rear and bump start your ass?

Now back to Naz's response!

it's hard getting the speed up in the space confines of an underground parking garage.

but I don't think it would have worked.

I'm going to go down at lunch and check the terminals on the battery.. make sure it's not a ground problem to the best of my abilities.

And then it goes to ford.

Maybe someone was trying to steal your car and the pat system is activated B)
the alarm didn't give me any indication.. not even a proximity notification, so it's unlikely anybody has been even near my car, never mind inside it.

that and the PATs light lights, and turns off, doesn't stay on or blink rapidly.. so the car should be fine in that regard.

I dunno.. it's very odd indeed.
