K, as some of you know I made custom grill. It doesnt have any signals in them, well now it does now, but this isnt my problem.
I bought some generic reverse signals from crappy tire for 2 bucks each (wanted to keep the clear thing going)...I cut the stock bulbs out so I could wire these bad boys up, but I know theres 3 wires on the stock bulbs and only two to this one.
I think the 3 wires on the stock unit are Black (GRND), Green, and Red. Not sure on exact color as it was pretty dark out in the driveway. I hooked up the black wire from the grill to the ground from the stock unit. Hook up the white wire from the grill to the red wire on the stock unit. Turn on the lights....nothing....switch the white to the green on both sides and voila, the grills lights are flashing.
BUT
They flick like crazy fast like one of them is going out, and they will only signal...meaning they wont stay but they will signal when the lights are on.
Any guesses how I could wire this up so it works properly?

I also noticed on the bulb harness that it names each wire as GND, MINOR (Orange& Green), MAJOR (Blue). lol, just called my dad to get him to name whats on the harness.
Im guessing GND is for Ground, Minor is for the signal fillament, and the Major is for the constant light fillament. :unsure:
Is there anywyas to hook up the two wires ?
Actually I think the minor is for running lights and the major would be for signals. The Focus has some weird ass wiring for the turn signals. Uses switched grounds etc. Send me a PM. I have an Idea.
Do you all remeber the mod where the middle wire on the stock harness can be cut to make them NOT on all the time? I would then guess that, that is the constant line. Why they are flickering like mad? Maybe you need a resistor or something? I remeber buying LED bulbs to put in my turn signals and needed a resistor casue the draw they take is so much less. Could it be something similar along those lines?
no, the middle wire is cut is to get rid of the park lights, the bulbs will flash normally when this happens. Perhaps you changed ur bulbs to that of different wattage? I suggest, keep the stock bulbs & Holders, but put a clear reflective lens over the bulb, or get a aftermarket bulb & Holder designed for dual filament, and make sure it has 3 wires: ground, flash and park.

paolo, the lights have been glassed into the grill already. Do you know of any other ways to get it working without me cutting up my grill again?
Tony, whats this resistor you talking about?
Yeah it sounds like the car sees the bulbs as burnt out. Are they the same kind (3157 I think)? A smaller bulb could draw less power and simulate a burnt out bulb..
You could try using a resister if that's the problem, that will simulate a higher load.. but you'd have to know how much power the bulb is drawing to know what size resister to put in.
The easiest way would be to use the stock bulb and harness, that way you know everything will work the way it's supposed to.. but that depends on how hard it would be to modify your bulb mounting point.

I had LED bulbs in my tail lights for a while and they too flashed really quick like a bulb was burnt out. You definately have them hooked up right for the lights you have going from 3 to 2 wire, that way you have signals just no running lights. But you will need to wire in resistors on both sides or they will burn out. It's the same idea as the original Halos off ebay.
I agree with guilty, try putting a resister inline with the + wire on the bulbs.

What happens if you use too big of a resister for the bulb? I'm not too big with the electrical stuff when it gets complicated..

It will starve the light and make it dim.
