Hey Guys,
I currently own a 2000 silver ZX3, and i have recently been offered by a guy a know to buy his 2002 or 03 cant remember Sonic Blue svt with all the options (all 2 of em)..... Anyways the price hes asking is like 17 -19,000$ and i was wondering what you guys think of this dea. Also i took a nice test drive this week in the new 2005 ST. Let me tell you it was quite the nice ride :)... So if you guys could give me your opinion on the svt that would help my decision.

But i know youll all be biased cause this is a focus board :D...
How many km's are on the svt ?
Not too many i think its 20,000 - 30,000.... hes selling it because he wants to get a svt mustang... he asked me cause i showed interest into the car earlier... hes like a 50 or 55 year old man btw.
If its an 02... i wouldnt pay over 17.... some dealerships had a couple brand new 02 svts on the lot for 18 and 19gs.... otherwise, its a great car... night and day difference from my old zx3, im sure most people who have made the switch would agree

There are a couple things to watchout for....
Clutch Recall/TSB. - Apparently the new/updated parts are set for release soon (ford says mid june)

If you plan to drive it year round you will definatley need snowtires 16" rims minimum (to clear the front rotors)

Thats all I can really think of right now...
if you can afford the extra money, go for the new ST, its a nice ride, I have checked it out myself. I would say the power feels fairly identical to an svt, and with some mods they will probably be faster!

plus with the new car you will have full warranty
I used to have a 2000 silver zx3 too, traded in for an 02 svtf and never regretted it.

the svt is a real nice package, better than an st if you ask me.
Go for it! I love my '02 svt. I'd offer him $16500 then work up from there but try not to go over $18k. Btw if you decide not to buy the car pm me 'cause I have a friend looking for one.
if your ZX3 has been reliable and you like it, it might be worth it just to pick up the SVT suspension components swap them in, get some really good tires..

....and turbo your Zx3....the SVT wont even be able to remotely keep up to you.

I was in your boat last year....trade the ZX3 in for an SVT....I decided to keep my ZX3 and started collecting parts for the turbo.
The SVT, as with any car maker's hi-po models, is just as much about prestige as speed. Do you want to pay for the label from the factory saying they squeezed more juice out of your engine and that you're faster than a stock ZX3?

If yes, buy the SVT. It comes with neat extras, suspension and wheels upgrades, etc... so it's not just the motor.

If not, as mentioned by Flofocus... get the SVT parts and build one yourself, or build something completely different yourself with 3rd-party aftermarket stuff as so many here have already done.

It's always about being unique. Which path will you choose?
The SVT isn't all about the extra horsepower....nice way to get the styling you might want. Interior and exterior....I would do it. But I am very boring and plain.
Not to mention. you get a crappy wash and vaccum every time your svt goes in for service

speaking of which why would you want an '05??? They're so fugly inside and outside compared to 98-04. Also you lose a lose of versitility by going from hatch to sedan.

You Sik Fuk
hey so let us know what you decided.. did you get the SVT ?
Well im going to talk to the guy this week and make a decision, i may infact not get it off the guy till september when im back in my money makin job. But this week forsure ill decide if yes or no... as for the '05.. i wanst exactly considering it cause the st is like 26,000$ and i dont want a sedan... i just said i test drove it.... but ill let you guys all know if i do indeed get it or not.... i sooo do want it heh. Thanks for all the opinions guys... and if you have more keep em comming. See ya.
I was also going to do the switch. I got appoved for a used SVT but I didnt go threw with it. I figure with the price difference I could put that money into the ZX3 but the main reason is service. The 2 ford dealors here are not SVT dealors so I would have to drive to 2-3 hours to Saskatoon for any servicing.
Ahh yea i see.... the nearest svt dealership from me is like 30 minutes away. I myself cant look at in the way of price difference because im bad at savign money, so i would never have money to upgrade my current focus, but i would be able to pay the monthly payments for the svt cause its a montly expense... i guess its just weird for me.

yea, but then you would be a boosted car vs. a non boosted car. What if the guy with the svt puts boost on his car too, then he would blow YOUR doors off! :o
