Hi, the 5-speed shift lever on my 2003 Zetec wagon (104,000 km) is getting a little notchy. I wonder if this is because the shift cables are getting dirty/dry.
Is there a way to lube these cables, or otherwise free them up?
Thanks.

Thanks for this pointer. I read over it, and I have a couple of questions:
- after pushing in the orange clips to release them, it says to move the shift arms to the neutral position. What is that position? Is it just straight up and down?
- then to re-lock the adjusters, do you just pry them back up with something like a screwdriver blade?
Thanks again,

after I had done the undercoating with Krown, for the first two days the gearshift was extremely smooth but then it returned to normal. it would be nice if we could lube them and stay like that longer.
