first thing in the morning, extremely cold or not, i find 1st and 2nd gear is little bit hard to shift. what would cause this?
when i first picked up this car and until today, shifting was smooooooth.

and which short throw shifter do you recommend? cfm, steeda(ford racing), b&m, fidanza? i find height of shift knob is little bit uncomfortable for my seating position.
steeda shifter is nice...also my mtx was always stiff in the winter when first started. RP Synchromech fluid seemed to help with this allot.
I have the CFM and its okay. But next time, I'm just going to cut and re thread it, no sense on buying a 3" shorter shifter.

will try rp when i do flywheels, clutches and differential.

how easy is to install steeda sts?
Def go with the steeda sts, cfm is just a shorter shifter, where as the steeda actually moves the shift cable linkage cable! And it doesn't take terribly long to install if ur mechanically inclined
i ordered ford racing sts, which is same as steeda. got it off from ebay(ford dealer), i had 10% off coupon to use.

i gotta modify my old sparco shift knob and re-thread to fit sts.
the steeda short throw shifter is awesome....but i broke the little plate thats supposed to make the 2-3 shifter easier....when it was -20.....lol
oh that is what plate was for??
hope mine doesn't brake easy..

its just this little plate that makes it so when u shift 2-3 you dont slip into 1....but yaaa.....it snapped one morning when it was super cold...doubt there's warranty on that...lol
I've never heard of them snapping....how thick is the zetec plate? The one for the SVTF is real thick...
I have had my Steeda STS for 7 years (daily driven) with no problems.

probably like 2-3mm.....
my focus did the same thing until i put the ford "honey" tranny fluid in. its expensive but well worth it
whats this honey trans fluid you're talking about?

i've had this problem all winter long.

Ford "Honey" - full synthetic transmission fluid ... part no. XT-M5-QS
so i guess ford honey thing is different than what comes from factory?

That's certainly true of the 00-04 ... not sure about the later years.

AFAIK there wasn't a MTX fluid change between 00-04 and later MY cars (Same MTX isn't it? The MTX-75)

NefCanuck
All the MTXs in the Foci (2000-2011) are the same for the top-tier motors (Zetec, Duratec) - MTX-75. The SPI had the IB5 for its MTX.
what is thread size for shifter? is it 12x1.25?

i heard aftermarket knob fit good on stock shifter but not on steeda tri-ax(=fr)??
