So motor is officially out. started some clean up of the engine bay (a lot of gunk build up everywhere). going to repaint and make her shine again. haha unfortunately I havent had a chance to download the pics off my camera yet but dont you worry! there's lots of pics to come in the next day or so!

and surprisingly went fairly smooth. no snapped bolts on any motor mounts or anything for that matter. haha liquid wrench works wonders! haha
Those look like a set of Hardk0re's Mats in your 1st set of pictures. I have the exact one's in my Focus.
i got'm off some kid in kitchener for $10 haha, brand new too. i love'm!
Ok, so as promised here's some more pics, the gutted engine bay of the 2001 focus sedan, needs the a/c lines to be removed and some tlc (cleaned up and some new paint).

Then there's the main show, the 98' escort zetec and right beside is the 2001 focus zetec.

Interesting to see. The Escort has a front sump pan as well but it appears to be physically larger. I know the Contour Zetec has a rear sump pan and I always wondered about the Escort.
Has anyone ever done something about what has to be the most ugly firewall in automotive history? Is that cardboard? Think I'd build a custom aluminum firewall cover or something.
in my old car I removed that sound foam or whatever it is, behind it is smooth plastic, and you can cut off the un needed tabs.
Okay, So another quick update for those who are following this thread. There are obviously differences between the two motors (escort vs focus). So today I started piecing together everything to make it work. So i learned that the following are different and need to be swapped to fit/work together:
-the waterpump is different (fits on both, but are different)
-the timing belt covers are different (one on focus has motor mount that connects to it)
-one of the timing belt tension pulleys are different (escorts is larger than the focus)
-Alternator mount needs to be swapped
-Fuel Rail
-Windage trey and oil pan also needs to be swapped in order for the transmission to fit properly.

I cleaned up and painted the focus parts to replace to escort motors (waterpump, alternator mount, etc) so i will upload an image with everything swapped over once its finished.

above is my first problem with the motor swap, haha
these are two different tension pulleys for the different zetec motors. notice the size difference and the escorts large bump on the back.

I have to somehow make the focus one mount to where the escort one used to sit (keep in mind the bolts to install the pulleys are different sizes as well, hense the bump).

I know what you're all thinking too, why dont I just leave the escort pulley on...I would like to but I can't, due to the timing belt / motor mounting bracket hits the pulley due to its larger size and wont install. sooo yeah.
Okay, as promised here's some more pics! yay! lol

First up is the swapped over timing belt cover along with the waterpump and alternator mount

Removed the Cylinder head temp sensor from the focus head (seen below)

Installed it into the escort head right by the coil pack.

hey guys, quick question for the timing belt pulley issue, should i leave the escort motor pulley on or swap it with the focus one? wont the size of the tensioner throw the timing off?
I would leave it the way it is, the spacing, of the pullies/size, etc is all setup correctly already... 1 thing you may want to do is replace the tensioner, pulley, timing belt now while everything is really easy access.
yeah sounds good, I just need a new tension pulley, I was looking over the one I have and its cracked, dont want that to go while driving lol. To make the escort pulley fit I have to do some custom work to the timing belt sheild. (again, I will post pics on this process.lol).

Thanks for the input!
Selling my glowshift vacuum guage if anyones interested.

finally wired up my guages "properly" haha

here's a pic of my pod ready to be installed. (oil press., boost and wideband air/fuel).

as you can see my boost guage is f**ked, haha sits at +5 boost instead of zero.

Could put that gauge in a car and tell potential buyers you added a turbo.
just wondering why the VCT engine?
Got it for a wicked deal. $600. Has 60 000 original kms on it, plus it was rebuilt with a forged crank and pistons, all gaskets brand new. came with the header and turbo too. seemed like a good enough deal to go through the hassle putting it in the foci...which is surprisingly a lot easier than one would think...just needs a couple interchangeable parts and its all good.

Just gotta swap over the windage tray and shes good to start putting back together.
Impressive! Looks like a fun project for the boring winter months.
how different is the motor from the regular zetec in our foci?
The differences are as follows:
-the waterpumps (slightly different shape to mount the timing belt cover/motor mount)
-the timing belt/motor mount
-alternator mounts different
-the windage tray is also different (has different mounts for the tranny.
-the head is also very different with the vct. (removes all that pesky EGR valve crap)

the good thing is everything is completely interchangable on the blocks themselves. I've only had to mod one thing so far! and that was the timing belt cover, had to notch out part of it to make the ecsort timing belt tensioner fit properly.

not the cleanest work ever...but it did the trick! haha
