Okay guys, stole my gfs neon for the winter and the foci's being parked in an underground garage for the winter. now, I have an 1998 escort zx2 zetec VCT motor thats going into the foci over the winter...now, I need your guys help! haha
so 1, Anyone know any much needed information on the VCT motor?
2. engine swap, never done one before, any prepping info would be helpful!
3. any helpful information on swapping it would be nice actually, haha seems pretty straight forward though.
4.escort motor needs escort computer? seeing as the only difference is the head...
So yes, any and all info would be helpful! will be starting the swap hopefully this weekend. wish me luck! haha
added a pic of the escort motor incase anyone needed to see it to get info.
well for a motor swap, the first thing I would recommend to do to that motor is the rear main seal. giant risk by not changing it and continuing with the swap.
pictures, pictures, pictures... take pictures where you aren't sure exactly how something went together.
are you planning to put in a new clutch or reuse the stock clutch?
personally I would say pull the head, swap in your head after a nice mild p'np and a valve job. run your ecu with a good tune and you'll save yourself a ton of headache. fighting with the exhaust vct on that motor your going to need some ems system.
I understand the motor is bullt, so that would be my only motivation to keep it....
Label EVERYTHING, and as mentioned, pictures, pictures, pictures.
A picture is worth 1000 words!
oh and I think a haynes manual will prob help ya too
yeah I got the haynes manual already. and i will be sure to take tons of pictures for everyone. as for the head, i definately think that will be the best bet as well. im looking at upgrading cams and valve springs eventually so should i do a port and polish or just grab a new head off ford racing or massive?
as for clutch, the car has 350 000km with original clutch, haha so yeah definitely think i should replace errr well upgrade my clutch. any ideas on a good clutch thats not too pricey to get?
now more questions for the motor swap, lets talk fluids.
Obviously, The oil and coolant will need to be changed, what about tranny fluid? probably would be a good idea to swap that fluid while everythings getting done as well (never really worked on a tranny before haha).
and for the big question now, OIL! Royal Purple, or Amsoil? heard great things about both.

The pictures aren't for us, they're for you. They'll be your visual reference in the event that you forget how to put something back together. That's not to say don't post pics... because you better!
I used to use Royual Purple, then Amsoil and now I just use Castrol Syntec I don't quite care about my car as much as I did before and the cost of Castrol @ $5/L makes it for one of the best value oils for Daily Driven car. esp one that gets almost 150km/day.
The biggest thing is the oil filter, for which I still use either k&n or royal purple filter. (they are pretty much the same)
haha yes i will definately need pics for reference thanks!
and as for oil. I use costrol now and it runs alright, used royal purple before and really didnt feel a difference. amsoils the only other one out there that seems worth while, so i might do one or two oil changes with that and see if theres any difference, for the cost it better be good. haha
ziploc baggys an tones of pernament markers, you'd be supprised how fast those things run out
ah yes, gotta love ziploc baggies, i can only imagine how easily small bolts and nuts will be to lose during a swap. going to stay as organized as possible. Planning on cleaning up the entire engine bay as well. clean up all wiring, spend the money and get the nice colored silicone heater hoses too.
okay, so...plans got mixed up and the swap couldnt begin last weekend. but the insurance is cancelled after the 30th for the focus so it'll be in the garage that morning and motor out that day.
So, again, need your help guys! lol
since im pretty much ripping everything apart, for silicone hoses...should i get the stock stuff by the foot and fit it myself or spend a little bit more and get the fitted hoses?
and sway bar...does it really improve handling that much?
and battery relocation? anyone with any info on that would be much appreciated too. more less just whats the best way to run the wires and any safety tips i should know before hand.
focaljet has a bunch on battery relocation, especially to the trunk. Also there are several kits out there for it too
Thanks, forgot all about focaljet, haha. haven't been on that in forever.
But in other news, need to keep everyone happy on this thread so i've decided to upload some much needed pics! haha although the engine swap hasnt begun yet, here's some of the fun parts we'll be putting in.
as well as a quick body shot of that cheap $280 foci haha with contour body kit made custom to fit. and a nice black and white interior...simply yet badass looking. lol with guages in dash (passenger side).
