I am looking into a problem with the airbag light coming on and staying on after honking the horn hard. The car is a 2005 SES. The light eventually goes out, but will come back after another honk.
From what I read, the likely suspect is the Clock Spring under the steering wheel. I will get to that repair as soon as I get a break in the weather, but here is my immediate concern:
- Does the airbag still work in the current condition?

Good question - I'm really only guessing but I think when the airbag light is on, the system is disabled.
assumption would be light off means no issue means should still fire when needed. Assuming whoever you honk at doesn't hit you.
Ive had that issue before. it used to come and go as it pleased. i popped the bag out of the steering wheel and put a little dielectric grease on the connections and made sure they were tight when putting it back together and its been fine since. apparently its a fairly common problem in various fords. not sure if thats what my problem was but it seemed to work alright for me for the time being.
and to answer the question, if the airbag light ever comes on, it means there is a problem in the system and the bags are disabled until the problem is fixed and the light is out.
