^^ Proof? The best I ever did city, stock, was 500ish with a 2007 ZX5 SES and an auto. That's on 42-43L of gas (until the light comes on).
Let's assume you hit the light and filled up. In the Focus (2007 anyways), that's about 43L. So you went 658KMs on 43L of gas. That's 6.5L for every 100 KMs. No way in hell unless you're hypermiling your face off. Something tells me you weren't.
Running it till you sputter doesn't count cause you're going to foul your fuel filter quickly, as well as your injectors and the rest of the engine (valves, etc) a lot quicker. Plus, good luck reproducing that time and again without stranding yourself.
In comparison, for 90%+ highway driving, I went 828 KMs on 73L of gas on Monday, driving to Georgetown and back home again (sold my Aquaglide, and the guy that bought it paid my gas to deliver it). That's 8.8L for every 100KMs, highway and a bit of city. That's judicious cruise control and a lot of 90-100 KM/H driving.
