38mpg.. that's awesome!

Isn't it actually 43.7 mpg?
I guess it all depends if your using the imperial gallon or the US gallon.
1 US gallon = 3.79 litres
1 Imp. gallon = 4.55 litres

So, 100km / 1.6km = 62.5 miles
6.5 litres/4.55 = 1.43 gallons
62.5/1.43 = 43.70 mpg (Imperial)

and 6.5/3.79 = 1.71
so... 62.5/1.71 = 36.44 mpg (US)

I've always used Imperial calculations.
My last gas up showed me 38.7 mpg :)

Whatever the mileage is it's a pain to drive this way in order to achieve those figures. If I was to drive like everyone else I bet I end up around 8-9L/100. But I am averaging better than transport canada's fuel consumption ratings.

no that was Aka
random thought:

you know how ppl always say that constantly changing speed on the highway wastes gas?

my 328 has a little fuel consumption needle and i notice that if i am in 6th gear just cruising at 65mph on a flat road the needle is a bit over 30mpg. but if i dig into the throttle to speed up 1 or 2 mph then for the time i am accelerating the needle dips to around 15mpg

drive slow and use cruise control guys!!
you guys make me feel like s***, I get 330-380 a tank, Acton to Oakville..

I really must drive like asshole i guess.

maybe you have something that needs maintenance like.. DPFE, or O2 sensor that is causing you to have poor fuel economy?

but yea.. your driving could be the issue.. i could get 7mpg in my WRX and 12mpg in my 328 if i really wail on it
Over the weekend I did lots of highay driving and I was able to get 560km to a 44L fill up, 7.9L/100Kms.

Best part is I was always 20 - 30 over the limit.

Prolly something with the car unless you are doing 150 all the time. In all honesty, driving to get the max fuel economy is a pain in the ass, I do it just to challenge myself. Never go over 90k, shift every gear at 16-1800rpm max and very slight acceleration. Play the traffic lights, accel/decel is where are the fuel is wasted. I try as much as possible not to stop on my commute. If I have to coast 400m to the light hoping it will change I'll do that. It's really easy to piss people off so you have to be careful LOL

I also try to fill up early morning or late at night and I always fill up when I get to half a tank. When it is cooler you get more gas for your money and the fuel system works a bit better with more than half a tank. I'm trying to get 5.9L/100k out of the wagon if I can.

I drive west on Mayfield rd from mcvean to dixie and the catch the 410. So I probly do a bit more city driving than highway.

If you want to accurately describe your fuel consumpiton from L/100km to MPG you should stick with a U.S. gallon. Since we live in North America, this is probably the way to go, because that's how all the auto manufacturers describe their fuel economy in the States. It's comparing apples to apples. I guess it looks better on paper using British/imperial conversion though  OK sorry, back to topic, either way that kills me, right now I'm at 10.8L/100km (premimum, ouch!)
I always reference 3.85 liters to a gallon as well, I hate when people use 4.55, what can you buy in this form?

Right now I am averaging 10.7l/100km in my Focus. A 2007 with a stick. That about 99% city driving. The tank I'm currently on, I'm trying my best to keep the RPM's low, below 2500 to see if I can get anything better, but in Georgetown your either going up or down hill. I have yet to run a full tank on the highway, or even half a tank. I plan on taking at least one long car ride this summer.

I wish Ford put the 1.6 VCT motor in, at least for Canada. Why do I need 2 liters and 140 horses to sit in traffic?

I know what you're sayin, there's no way to avoid saving gas when driving uphill, if you're in too high a gear youre probably being too hard on the drivetrain. At least you can use stick to your advantage when driving/coasting downhill. Mostly flat in Windsor, I been trying the burn and coast method, and have been getting 50km more out of a tank, but there's probably other factors involved too.
don't sweat the mpg so much guys. you might save like $3 per tank but if it stresses you out while doing it its not worth it
I used to get pissed off when I was paying $42.00 or so, for a full tank in the Focus. Went to fill it up last Thursday, at 129.8 or .9, just to see.... $58.06 later.......... To all of our members from the east end of the GTA, if you see a white 2000 ZTS with the driver sleeping at the wheel while on the 401 at 6:00 a.m., that's me, all my Timmies money went to the gas tank... :(
time to take the train? or buy a 60mpg motorcycle?
