I always use what I thought was the best out there which is Castrol Syntec. Though I have been looking into Amsoil very deep and finding that Castrol Syntec is about mid way on the charts and Mobil 1 is way at the end of the charts when compared to Amsoil.
I'll be going from 5w 20 Castrol Syntec to 0w 20 Amsoil 100% Synthetic.
It's pretty cheap comparing it to the compettitors above. And my local Partsource can order in in for me too.

Take a look

Tell me what you think??????

A friend of mine sells it at work, he sells a lot. People seem to swear by it, although personally I use synthetic from Crappy Tire (they don't MAKE it, it's someone elses rebranded) when it's on sale for $19 a jug. Not saying that it's any better, I change the oil in my car every 7500k anyways, just my personal preference.

Contact him at http://oilkan.ca/Home.html or mark@oilkan.ca or by phone - 905.517.3923 if you want to check his prices; he works at the Oakville plant you could probably arrange to meet him if you want to pick some up.
Thanx, I'll look into it.
Ya a few ppl I know swear by it too and my father use to run it in his service vehicles and never had any engine problems.

And I'll be getting a Oil Filter from them too.

I only heard nothing but good things about Amsoil
Here's another guy (met him personaly) who distributes this oil and swears by it. If you mention GTAN car club i believe he gives a discount.

Personaly I run "Motul 8100", but it's pretty hard to find if you don't know places.

My buddy can get it... I ran it once(the 5w30 8100) and the car ran like it was thick. But still ran great.
I just want to try this stuff out and see if its as good as they say so I can add it to my list on distributors to become.

Different cars run different on the same oils.
Subi's run great on Amsoil, Motul, Castrol but do not like Mobil 1

What's the price per 5L jag that your buddy can get?
I think at my place i get it for $65-68. I usually get 2 or 3 at the same time.

From what I remember he came to the meet with red 240sx and had long hair.....probably in his mid 40's
I think my VW runs on Motul also.

I've got the 2.5 5 cyl engine and my oil changes are every 15,000km
Castrol is still the best in my books, but that probably has to do with the fact that I work for the company. LOL

Castrol Edge is coming to Canada in the 1st 1/4 of this year. AFAIK

Yeah saw that VW dealer sells that oil. Motul tranny oil is very good too.
I think his price is about the same if not a lil more. But I had got it for free so I was like :D .
Partsource 13.99 per pint lol
Gonna check out a couple of lil dealers around.
if mobil 1 is at the end compared to amsoil how come its the factory fill for the ZR-1, mercedes, bmw and GT500 cars? lol
I run Mobil 1 in my car. Its all I ever use and it does the trick for me. I cant justify changing to a different oil. After I tore down my engine at 96,xxx the sidewalls of the block, crank and rod bearings still looked amazing. No scores, pits, scratches or anything. And if anyone knows how I drive my car I beat the living piss outta it.
I don't wanna knock Mobil 1 cause I used it in my Focus and had no problems.
BUT
apperently Mobil 1 is not true synthetic motor oil. Which is still OK for regular folks who don't track their cars every time.
Here is an interesting read on "True Synthetics" and "Pure Synthetics".

Quote:What is Hydrocracked Base Oil?

It all started a year or two ago at Mercedesshop.com, there are some tech guys there that are second to none.

It was there that I found out the difference between "true synthetics" and "full synthetics". True synthetics like Redline and Amsoil are Polyol Ester based, while full synthetics like Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, Valvoline Synpower, BMW Synthetic (by Castrol), and yes Royal Purple are actually made from mineral oil that is refined by a synthetic process called "hydrocraking". While hydrocracking yields VERY GOOD OIL, I don not consider it to be truly synthetic.

The story goes like this. Long long ago Mobil 1 was truly synthetic (polyol ester based) and selling for $4/quart, then Castrol Syntec (Hydrocracked mineral oil) came on the scene claiming to be synthetic also selling for $4/quart. Mobil (much like me) thought that this was false advertising and sued Castrol for calling their hydrocracked oil "Synthetic". The court ruled that Castrol could indeed label their hydrocracked oil as synthetic because the hydrocracking process is considered to be a "Synthetic Process". So now Castrol is enjoying a HUGE profit margin over Mobil because hydrocracked oil is much cheaper to produce when compared to polyol ester based oil. What does Mobil do? They "reformulate" their oil and switch to a hydrocracked oil to enjoy the same profit margin as Castrol. I bet you thought "reformulated" meant better, and I don't remember seeing a price rollback on their oil when I made the switch...

With that said Polyol Ester based oils have significantly better properties when compared to hydrocracked oil. Redline does a great job of explaining the advantages at their site (http://www.redlineoil.com).

Just as a PS, I believe that Royal Purple is one of the best (if not the best) hydrocracked "synthetics" on the market. Their additive package is outstanding IMHO.

If that is not enough, check out the links at the end of my "standard oil post" below:
BMWs list of approved synthetics (call them 1-800-831-1117) are Valvoline Synpower, Castrol Syntec, and Mobil One, and of course the BMW Synthetic Motor Oil from the dealer, all in 5W-30 weights. All 4 of these "Synthetics" are made from Hydrocracked group 3 base stock, which is actually mineral oil refined using a synthetic process called hydrocracking. Very good oil, but not truly synthetic. Let me repeat, very good oil.

If you want to have real synthetic, look to Redline or Amsoil. I think $8/bottle is too expensive for engine oil because I change mine often (5000 miles), but it is all that I'll use for long service items like transmissions, rear axles, or bearing grease applications.

If you are considering Castrol Syntec, go purchase the BMW Synthetic from the dealer, its cheaper than Syntec and made for BMW by Castrol, it is very similar to Syntec, but it has a unique additive package (the one specified by BMW for BMW's, compare Syntec additives to BMW additives at the Maxima website below), but its only $3.42/bottle (with BMWCCA discount, http://www.bmwcca.org) from my dealer. Great price, and the only value you'll every find at the dealer, and you need to get a filter from there anyhow, unless you've mail ordered a stockpile.

Not really sure how accurate his pricing quotes are but draw your own conclusions.
Mobile 1 .. 50.000 KM Later, every 7500 km Change, Looks like it came out of the bottle everytime.

And I truly beat the snot outa the car.

I will not spend a dime more then is needed on a Focus.. Its a f***ing focus, Not a Lambo, DOnt fall into the OIL mans trap

qft
:)
I've always ran mobil 1 in my cars, even the suby dealer here recommends the stuff.

A lot of the suby guys say mobil1 magically disappears in the boxster engine, i check my oil pretty frequently, and can say my oil is always full, so i dont know what some of these guys are talking about
I love Castrol Syntec... but I'm also very interested in trying something new. Asoil seems to carry a good range of fulids and products to make if worth while to take a look.
This might not be the case but I've been hearing a lot of clicking from my cams lately. So I'm just going to mess around seeing how I have a project for the summer to see what she pull at the next dyno day....
