Exhaust is something small you can do after, if your going S/C it won't affect much regards to tune. Perhaps turbo would be more affected, but If the tune is right it shouldn't affect anything.

thats hard to believe
Kev y would it be like that?

Why is it hard to believe, when you tune the parameters you have to work with aren't directly affected by your exhaust. The exhuast not flowing well would create backpressure and take more power from the engine.
When you have a free'd up exhaust you can re-tune but theres no real benefit, you won't really be able to add more spark, fuel, etc.. because your initial input parameters are the same.
edit: I would assume if your turbo things change, your exhaust flow directly relates to how well your turbo spools, etc but most tunes probably wouldn't need to be modified even in this case if they were done correctly.

you guys forget i did everything myself. all the pipeing and everything, for coupler 39$ for 2 feet, lines cost me 30, intercooler 150, for headers get the paceseter ones and reweld a new flange. honestly you guys think that turbo charging a car cost a fortune, but if you get the parts from the right places and do everything yourself then your golden,
it took me about 2 months to gather all the parts, but i work part time erning 260$ every 2 weeks. it took me 2 weeks to finish the car from start to begining, and most days i worked like a snail becuase it was +30C out side.
im not saying dont go buy the powerworks kit, or dont buy the roush kit, im just saying that there are cheaper alternatives that work great too.
for my car im done with it, just have to paint it and im done. for a daily driver its amazing comfortable, and has the extra power.

wellllll... there's a couple of caveats to that.
If you have an aftermarket MAF... the more the car can breath, the higher the load scalars can go..if you can confirm the load scalars are fine, you're good to go.
For equipment using the stock MAF.. it's gonna peg, which means that the tune will take into account the current airflow characteristics of the car. Update the exhaust, and it'll lean out because the car is consuming more air than before, but the tune is assuming the usual amount for the pegged MAF at given rpm/throttle position.
However, most tunes I've seen are safely rich, which means that a simple visit to a dyno after the parts are put on is all that's usually needed to ensure you're not running too lean.
There's usually a 10-15% margin of safety, so adding something like an exhaust (which could net you 20HP), wouldn't necessarily need a retune, tho it's more desireable to be tuned for it.

Kamilk69 has the bigger MAF, injectors and a tune from Paul Meister at Steeda. The last time I talked to Paul and asked him about tuning if I were to boost my car he told me he'd give me a base tune for $75 (I already have the Xcal 2) and he'll throw it on the rollers for a few hours for $200. So whats my total cost? $275 for tuning on the dyno? I can understand where your getting around $500 for tuning but $1000? Thats just nuts, the guy tuning your ride must be learning the SCT Software (if thats what your using) as he goes along. Just my opinion here.......

Yeah...well I've heard about his tuning to
$500 for chip (mail order from Tom) How much did you pay for teh xcal2? Include that in your cost.
$500 (for 3 days on the dyno, and I have 3 different tunes on my chip). No SCT was used, the tuner only uses diablo stuff.
Guess what that adds up to!!
And thats cheap for GOOD dyno tuning. I was quoted $1300 by Tapp auto in Ottawa.

Waste of money, build the internals and crank the boost up!

Listen man i'v had a jacksonracing blower at 5 pounds with no internals. Trust me boost is not the way to go!! Cams and cam gears pullys and a cleaned out head would be the best bet with these motors..They are stong they just need head servive after 170,000k. So take advantage of that and clean port and polish help that s*** breath more + the pully ad on and your good to go.. + if you need that quick boost then just get a 50 or 75 shot and go crazy! you will be alot faster car this way! adding boost with blowers and turbos is not worth the money and tuning trust me I got f***ed on that end..that's why I sold the blower..
P.s- you do not need to rebuild the low end STRONG MOTOR REMEMBER!

Welcome to the Hoard...ummm, I mean board...lol
Don't waste time or money on bolt-on stuff, if your goal is to have an import eater...Forced induction is the only REAL way to make the Zetec Foci honestly fast. I spent a good chunk of change on only a few bolt-ons, and for a couple grand more, I coulda had a JRSC or PWSC.
If I could do it all over again, I'd just get a PWSC and MBRP 2nd Gen. And call it a day. Now, as you can see by my avatar, I went a different route alltogether...rockin the oldskool technology... displacement...lol!
Best of luck to you though with whatever you do!

EDIT: just noticed you have an SVT, yeah your block can handle more than the zetetec can, but thats what were talking about here...the zetec.
With the zetec, P&P, cams, etc wont get you anywhere near the performance of a Turbo'd Zetec. Even with a shot of Nitrous.

i heard they are ok...if u do buy, u need to buy the whole svt kit....egr, engine oil deep stick ect.....i mean its a nice clean LEGAL set up ...but for that money u can get u can get obx header, flex, cams and maybe cam gears....and the numbers ur gonna have will be pretty much the same as my set up
i was gonna go that svt rout but it was gonna cost too much
and i heard sometimes they are bitch to fit in

By the time you pay for a P&P, cams, pulleys, then the labour...you could have a turbo setup that would destroy the mentioned setup above.
Take my car for example...
219 Wtrq @ 3797 Rpm
205 whp @ 5637 rpm.
By the time you hit that nitrous switch, Im long gone. B)
