The dash and such are dimming when idling and taking off. The car is whining like a supercharged monster too :P
How much are alternators for the Focus and hard are they to replace on our cars?
Has anyone had one swapped out? and if so...how much was it?

I believe that Aaron and I spoke about how much of a bitch the alternator was yesterday. He asked me if anyone had changed a certain part yesterday, but I was mezmorized by boobies and not actually listening.
Anyway, I think he spoke of the alternator and having to lift the engine slightly to remove it.
But I'll double check with him tonite.
And he said it was atleast 3 hours labour.
it is a big pain to do, i just did mine 2 months ago... you don't need to life the engine to do it, but there are quite a few brackets and such that need to be moved out of the way.
you can do it in your driveway easily as the only reason you need to go under the car is to remove/replace your belt ... and about 3-4 hrs labour is right
and i believe a new altenator from ford is 350-400$ and from a wreckers is $60-90
just had mine done - - 600$$$$$$
ouch
Lovely.
Like the 515.00 dollar brake job I had done yesterday wan't enough.
I had a seized driver side caliper. Had to replace em' both. :(
Looks like the streak of non issues with this car is over.
That sux dude. Guess when it rains it pours.
get one from a wreckers .. you can replace it 4 times if needed before adding up to the price of a new one
look at a parts store or something, i believe they sell them at my store for like $185 with a $50 core charge or something along those lines. That's also shop price....
it just sucks to work on the car now...its gettin really cold.....i mean i was lucky enough to get not such cold day yestaday to do my header install , it was inside of the shop but still pretty chilli.....i can just imegine doing it on your drive way .....too cold

there goes your raise :D
the only problem is the belt and taking off all the brackets. i had to do it 3 times in a week cause they "supposedly" fixed it but it was still f***ed. but i got it down to 1 hr job. the only problem is if the alternator is "seized" into the mounts. it'll jsut take alot of prying/rocking to get it off. id offer my services for alot less than a tech but im obvs not close to you.
if ur lucky all of your cleaning products will have seeped into the mounts and kept them all greased up!
Dude.... i've done a alternator swap in 1.5 hrs...
Its not as bad as eveyrone thinks.
Engine doesnt need to be tilted, you just have to be creative when you're lifting the alternator out.
That being said, for someone with a shop and all the right tools, it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to tilt the engine.
but it can be done fairly easily without it.
Wow.
Unbelieveable.
$603.77 at Canadian Tire to have it replace,
:lame:
I talked to him about doing this job. he did have to raise the motor to get the broken and seized bolts out.
And he said it's a bitch of a job.
wow, I'll just keep my mouth shut.

I didn't get the quote from Aaron.
What should I pay oh noble one?
Your asking the wrong guy. I would personally charge you $20/hour for it. Took me about 1 hour to get mine off...seized bolts of course. Took no time to re-install. Hammer and pry bar are your freinds.
Cant rememeber what I paid for mine, but it was under $100 for a refurbished one, with bringing my old one in.
Go ahead, pay $600 for it. Like I give a s***.
