Hey guys.
Had the battery light come on the other day while pulling away from a light. It went out after about 3 seconds or so. But what I also noticed lately is the car is making a "whine" sound when I accelerate. I't not related to the stereo, I checked all that already,
I'm thinking the bearings in my alternatertor have gone for a crap.
Is this possible?
:(

Could be. Have you checked the tension on your belt yet? You have to isolate the source if the whine. Could be a tensioner, could be brushes. Bad bearings in the alternator usually won't cause a dip in output voltage to make your light come on, unless it was seized or seizing. It would just make noise.
im gonna go with your alternator is going on you. if youve already had the battery light come on, it means that your charging system is putting out irregular voltage. it may be the regulator on the alternator thats shot.
either way bring it in and get them to test it. talk to bryan and see if his son can get the snap on battery and alternator tester from Canadian Tire to save you having to pay for the diagnostic on it. its a portable unit
id suggest you dont travel too far from home if the battery light is going on and off. once the alternator goes for good, you will be drving on battery power and as soon as thats gone you wont be going anywhere.
i think when mine went the brushes were also worn out.
I am pretty sure they test it for free. But I'll ask him when I see him (never)

I think Partsource does too. They'll wheel it out to your car -- seen'em do it here in Hamilton.
When my alternator was going it honestly sounded like a supercharger lol, whining like you wouldn't believe. I'm gonna place a bet on it's your alternator, especially if you battery light has been coming on and off.
if it is your alternator, i've got a spare one you can have for $70 .. i'm positive it works perfect but i can get it tested to be forsure
Do you notice anything weird going on as you up the electrical load? (IE: Defrost, high fan, lights, radio, the works?) a small dip in the light output would be normal but I'll bet if you try that now your battery light will light up like a Christmas tree :(

ZENER DIODE! :P  B)
EVERYTHING else is normal.
The light only came on that once...and hasn't appeared since then.
I'm gonna pop the hood tonight and see if I can't figure out what it is.

Did you check the Posts on your battery? Are they clean and what not?
