2006-2007 Multiple Vehicles 2.0L/2.3L I-4 Duratec - Driveability Concerns and/or DTC P0340 ââ¬â Inspect Crankshaft Pulley
Some 2006-2007 Focus, Escape, Fusion and Ranger vehicles equipped with I-4 Duratec engines may exhibit unusual engine noise, crank/no start, hesitates/surges, or rough idle concerns. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0340 may be present in the powertrain control module (PCM) as well. The concern(s) may be caused by the crankshaft pulley. Prior to following normal diagnostics, visually inspect the crankshaft pulley damper for proper alignment or damage without removal. Service as necessary. It is critical that proper service procedures and special service tools are utilized if the pulley needs to be removed for service or severe engine damage may result. Refer to workshop manual section 303-01 for proper service procedures. If the crankshaft pulley is not damaged
continue with normal PC/ED diagnostics.
