Hey eveyone,

My ZTS is running high on Km's, and am thinking of straping on a turbo/SC.

I was looking at some crate motors (2.0 zetec) or the possibility of getting my hands on a short block...what do I do???

My engine has almost 170000 km on it now, and is still great. Do I....

a. Slap on a turbo/SC now, and blow that puppy
b. do the engine work over the winter (short block)
or
c. buy a new motor minus the accessories, then install the fun stuff later.

Buying a new car is an option, but would rather not since this is paid for already, and I love the car. What do I do? Thanks.
.... Sell your focus and get one with less K on it. then just get your upgrades.

A new engine is only like $500 at most wreckers, I wouldn't worry about blowing your engine, if your interested in a cheap supercharger setup let me know :P
I'd s/c it for sure... just build up the engine properly before slapping one on.
Why do you need to build up the engine before? The only point for building up your engine would be if you want to push some serious HP and some large PSI #'s to get it done.

I'd say if your building up the engine don't waste time with a supercharger, and just go to a nice turbo setup......with a built up engine, you'll have allot more room to grow, upgrade, etc.
Put a JRSC or PW S/C kit on it and call it a day.
i was thinking of doin the same thing to my zts next year....but it also hitting 175k....and goin strong.....still deciding
if the compression is still good and there isn't any fluid leaked or consumed.. seems like you could go for it? no reason to think it will automatically blow up the motor unless you drive very abusively or running a bad/extremely aggressive tune
thanks for the advice guys, before this goes down I'm definately in need of a new trans...got alot of noise when shifting and at high torque situations...i.e. starting off in second gear. Someone told me that the focus has always had a loud gearbox? Is this true? And does anyone have the same issues/sounds?
BOOST THAT BITCH!

Keep it ontopic or else you got yourself a fc.net vacation. ok?

No fawkin smilies.
with higher mileage like that, i would get a thorough check over of the engine be for eeven seriously thinking about boost. a compression test and leak down test would be a MUST before boost, getting your bores scoped is also not a bad idea. while you may have good compression and no leak down if the cross-hatch is worn down on the thrust minor and major surfaces you will have a had time holding boost for a long period of time.

if you get those checked out and they are all good, then i'd suggest buying Kevin's FS kit as a reasonably priced boost option.

if you want to spend some money, i can set you up with the parts for a performance rebuild; pistons, rods, cams, bearings, etc even a complete built engine if you do not have anyone local who is a skilled engine rebuilder. Shipping can be expensive on a engine...

what are you thinking of spending?
Leave the engine you have in the car now.

Buy a new crate motor and build that up properly over time.

yea zetec engines are pretty cheap to buy...with a low milege.,.from $400-$700....im prob gonna do that

Seriously?

Jeezus, it;s cheaper to putin a new one than repair it!

Cant exactly remember what ford wanted for the engine and the swap. I know it was over 2G's cuz when he said the price I laughed pretty hard.

For anybody in the ottawa region that may need a new Zetec engine, let me know, I can obviously get them cheap.

I should check on some 2.3 duratec heh! :D

I'm with Flo...If you can get a new motor for 300 of him, have fun s/c that one in the car drive until you Blow it thru you hood and into the neighbour driveway and then put the new on in the car and do all the work to it to make it sweet.

Thats me though, If i'm going to buy a new engine i'm going to DESTROY the old one for sure... :D
