Hey all!
Sedan trunk has stuck closed - won't open with key or switch, showing ajar on the dash light but tight as a drum. Any ideas how to get in without taking a plasma cutter to the lid?

Do the back seats fold down in a sedan?
try opening it up from inside.
first off welcome to the site,
second, what year ?
third, can you get in from the back seat to look at it? if you can try spraying a little WD40 or something similar at the lock to see if it will loosen any build up in that area.
Give it a good tug. Mine sticks too sometimes.
If the seats are locked up you may have to head out to the dealer for a new trunk lid switch. The contacts on mine are finiky too.
Your kid isn't in the trunk is it?

Although this isn't funny, I did find myself chuckling....i apologize...
Depending on how the previous gen did it, getting access through the back seat may not be possible on the sedan. On my '05 the release for the seatback is, you guessed it in the trunk so if the trunk lid is stuck shut yer SOL.

i laughed too...only cause I know there is the emergency release in the truck so kids can get out!
yeah my releases are in the trunk (05) they should have both trunk and cabin release on them.. pain in the ass... I have managed to get my seats down from in the cabin before.. i'd have to go look at the car to remember how i did it...

The switch on your dash doesn't work?....If so you might have to take the dash apart and re-seat the wiring on the switch cause after awhile the start to wear out (came from a ford mechanic) cause mine is starting to go. that might help you in your endevour.
If that don't work you got two options,
1. take it to a dealer and get it fixed.....could cost some nice coin, or
2. pound the hell out of the trunk lid with an axe or sledge hammer to get it open and then get a hole new one. That could cost some serious coin too. :D
But check and see wich is cheaper and then pick from the options that are there then. Oh and welcome to the other side of the universe (FC) and I hope you enjoy your stay and GOOD LUCK TO YOU NEWB.
Thanks for all the replies - 'specially the one so concerned for my kid :rolleyes: - wish I could get my hands on that emergency release. I'm still stuck - hey Crazirich, did you figure out how to get the seats down/latch open? Read in another forum there's an access hole under the plastic rear seatbelt cover, but my mitts are too big to fit (only time I ever wished for smaller hands - you know what they say...)
BTW, it's a 2000, with 196,000 km - a real workhorse!
Most of the issues with the rear trunk/decklid/hatch not opening are now centering around the following:
- poor contact in the switch in the dash
- shorted out wire somewhere (especially those with the hatchback and a possible weak design in the wiring harness)
- lock has seized because everyone goes for the button on the dash or their fobs
You could try and squirting some penetrating spray into the keyhole of the trunk. Maybe the lock mechanism has seized somehow.
I'd probably take it to the dealer to let them mess around with it. When everything is resolved, make sure you periodically use your KEY and open the trunk and other doors.
Got in! Went to a bodyman pal who pulled off all the plastic around the 1/4 window and seatbelt, then reached in and tripped the seat latch. Cripes, whatta goin' on.
For a laugh, I tried contacting Ford Canada to see if they could offer some help. What a joke. Can you say runaround ... <_<
