Is that before or
AFTER they get turned into taxi cabs? :P

^^--- someone want to tell me what the last 5 posts have to do with the gas cap thread before I remove them?
that being said,
This is a great idea... less things for customers to fiddle with... it's actually something innovative, I'm surprised so many people are bashing it.
when it breaks, well, then we can start bashing them for not being able to pull it off.. .but I doubt it's THAT complicated.
Didn't have time today to read the whole thread.... BUT
Triptunes is available now, and its a type of FM modulator but hard wires into the car... ford has specific intallation instructions because they pull the power/ground directly from the radio wiring (any of us caould do that) for the different cars its offered for. The listing is for 06-07 focus, 05-06 mustang, 98-07 ranger, 04-06 f-105/mark lt. That is due to the wiring and antenna hook ups...
I've looked at it and talked to the manufacterer and I found one on thier website that looks just like the Ford one except where it says Schoche it says ford accessories
LINKY - Schoche Industries

that seems to be a stupid way of doing it. if anyone know how an iPod snycs with your PC, that is the same connection that should be used to connect an iPod to your car stereo. VW has an iPod cable in the golve box of the new GTI, and works and sound that way that it should.

The article said that the Ford solution would allow you to use the steering wheel mounted audio controls to actually control the iPod. Does the solution you listed claim that? (I looked over the website and all it says is that it will
play the iPod through the stereo, noithing about controlling the iPod)
Maybe the Ford supplied solution has some additional wiring?

basically you take the lead they give you (3.5mm headphone) and plug it in... you still use the ipod. Just like hooking up and old school tape adapter or y-cable to your stereo.... just that the fodulator is directly inline cutting off the antenna so you don't get radio station interference. There is a power switch nest to the plug so when you turn it off the regular antenna works normal and the ipod can be left plugged in
Its pretty GAY if you ask me... BUT you can then use anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack... dvd player, laptop, psp, even a friggin record player with a 1/4-->3.5mm adapter if you want.
It retails at about $103 cdn.... and will take about an hour to install properly... I can take a pic of the Ford kit if anyone wants.. I have one here
If it's as simple as you say, than how would Ford make the controls on the steering wheel interact with the ipod? Not possible. It would have to be a full 'ipod connector' to control the ipod remotely. And I think Ford is going in the right direction, not only because I own an ipod like the rest of the world, but because they are listening to consumers, and that is definitely one thing consumers are asking (bitching) for...
As for the gas cap, well I agree with nos, I hate hanging the cap and worrying about scratching the paint... and having a locking cap only leaves me with a loose cap to give me more grief (yes... i'm that complicated  ) so overall the modern cap-less system sounds interesting.
we've been buiding the Flex pre-production units since November and no problems with the capless system....yet.
As for scratching paint with the old gas cap, I've taken the plastic hang thing off the car and cut it right at the cap. I find the cap sits nicely on top of the gas pump while I'm pumping gas for $0/hr
For those that somehow spill gas and love to spend any and all disposable income, here is a little something:
who the f*** needs a gas bib? lol!
answer: RICH PEOPLE!
I have the capless system on the Mustang and it is brilliant
I can't believe no one thought of it before now
only down side i see so far is that i won't be able to do a billet fuel door on the stang....:D
Ford is truely shinning through with very innovative ideas
Now the TPMS..... that i could have done with out!!!
I think the capless idea Is great and kudos on trying in on the GT 1st.

fixed.
interesting... doesn't look much different than a normal filler minus the cap.
And here I thought it would be something more exciting.
thanks for the pic.
So is this saying that you can't fill it with a gas can? Looks like you need an attachment or something.
^-- yeah, looks like there's a gas-can funnel attachment in the trunk of the car that can be used if needed. Glad they include something to help you out if you do run out of gas.
Of course, i've never ran out of gas -- in any of my cars...
