In this photo released by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Singapore flagged vessel Cougar Ace is shown disabled and listing 90 degrees to its port side about 230 miles south of the Aleutian Islands off the Alaskan coast on Monday, July 24, 2006. The Coast Guard and the Alaska Air National Guard were sending aircraft Monday to rescue 22 crew members aboard an Asian cargo ship taking on water south of the Aleutian Islands. The 654-foot Cougar Ace, which was carrying nearly 5,000 cars from Japan to Canada, had rolled practically onto its side. No mention of what make the cars were but they usually all belong to the same manufacturer. Inventory will be low for one of the dealer networks that is for sure:

Gonna be some angry 'suppose to be' skyline owners :P
If all the cars were base model Hyundai Accents worth $15,000 that shipment would be worth $75 million.

Ohhhh I would hate to hold the insurance pollicy on that shippment. :o
Just get Paul to do a nice int/ext clean up and no one will be able to tell the difference.

How much oil has leaked already?
That's insane. And there's only one cause. GODZILLA.

Only down side to that is I highly doubt it would be the Civic's as they are made in the States, and the Si 3 door hatch is made in Europe, but if anything Japanese built I'd say Mazda 3's & 6's as a guess.

again Doubt that too, they make all the Legacy's / Outbacks Sedans and Wagons in a Ohio plant. Though I should remove the Mazda 6 from my first quote as they are made in Michagan.
Toyota has my vote! already had many many angry customers who's cars are on order from Japan...

It will be interesting ;)
I was Right, they were Mazda's

Ghost Ship Full Of Mazdas Floats Free Off Alaska
The Daily Auto Insider

August 2006

A disabled ship, abandoned by its crew and carrying nearly 5,000 autos, is drifting toward Alaska's Aleutian Islands chain, the Associated Press reported.

The Cougar Ace, a Singapore-flagged ship, likely had discharged too much water from ballast tanks at the bottom of the vessel, causing it to suddenly list in the space of 10 minutes, the story said. Unable to right the ship, its 23 person crew abandoned the task and was hoisted to safety by helicopter.

A salvage tow from Seattle and a tug from Dutch Harbor, Alaska have been sent out try to save the 654-foot car carrier and secure its cargo, mostly Mazda vehicles stacked 14 stories high in the 155-foot wide ship. In addition, the the Coast Guard cutter Rush is tracking the ship.
if the boat's listing on it's side, I don't have much hope for the cars.
