This appeared on the web shortly before being pulled down by the lawyers for Scientology..

Quote:They teach that 75 million years ago the thetans were actually hundreds and hundreds of billions of interplanetary space beings placed on Earth by the evil galactic space ruler Xenu. They were killed by Xenu when he placed their bodies around volcanoes (somewhere around Hawaii) and bombarded them with H-Bombs. Their souls attempted to escape after death, but Xenu anticipated this and had machines ready to capture them. The souls were taken to giant 3D cinemas and brainwashed into believing all kinds of bad things, like the story of God and the devil. Finally, Xenu released thetans into the atmosphere, where they began to clump together and make their way into our human ancestor's brains.
Go L. Ron Hubbard!

Way to turn what would sound like really cool sci-fi reading into some jerkass religion!

Maybe he should have just stuck with writing this into a novel.
(I did like Battlefield Earth, and the Mission Earth books)
lol they actually showed this all on south park, the one where Tom Cruise won't come out of Stan's closet lol.....
the full rolling stone article on scientology

Quote:Unique among religious faiths, Scientology charges for virtually all of its religious services. Auditing is purchased in 12.5-hour blocks, known as "intensives." Each intensive can cost anywhere from $750 for introductory sessions to between $8,000 and $9,000 for advanced sessions.

...

"Among the things that have made this movement so controversial," says S. Scott Bartchy, director of the Center for the Study of Religion at UCLA, "are its claims that its forms of therapy are 'scientific' and that the 'truth' will only be revealed to those who have the money to purchase advancement to the various levels leading to 'being clear.'

and the real kicker..

Quote:Both of Natalie's parents are Clear, she says. Her grandmother is what's called an "Operating Thetan," or "OT." So is Tom Cruise, who is near the top of Scientology's Bridge, at a level known as OT VII. OTs are Scientology's elite -- enlightened beings who are said to have total "control" over themselves and their environment. OTs can allegedly move inanimate objects with their minds, leave their bodies at will and telepathically communicate with, and control the behavior of, both animals and human beings. At the highest levels, they are allegedly liberated from the physical universe, to the point where they can psychically control what Scientologists call MEST: Matter, Energy, Space and Time.
if anyone is interested I'll be offering FREE stress tests in the parking lot.

sorry meford, it's not *that* kind of stress test ;)
The Scientology episode of South Park (pulled in the States), is one of the best ever. As Frost says, they cover the origin of Scientology in pretty good detail, and the whole time there are big letters flashing on the screen "THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACUTALLY BELIEVE!". Certainly one of my favs, right up there with the one on the Mormons (Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb...Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb).
That South Park episode is HILLARIOUS!
