So I noticed my heat shield was rattling and whatnot and got tired of it. I didn't want to tear it off either. I figure it was placed there for a reason, so I'll leave it be.

Had to fix it in 3 spots. I recycled 2 of the pressed sheet metal nuts or whatever they're called. At Crappy Tire I found a set of "push on nuts" in the little help section. $5.. but when I asked for those other nuts anywhere they looked at me like I was retarded.

Then used some old soup can lids, cut them a bit smaller in diameter, drilled a hole in the center, and voila, instant big washers that may last a bit longer than the original design (no washer). Much bigger surface area, so hopefully the nuts won't work through the shield as fast.

And that was that. Just don't cut your fingers to shreds cutting out the lids.
Yeah, I got sick of mine makin noise under the car so I grabbed a pair of siccors and cut the f'er off. No more noise. :P
Dunno how long those soup can lids will last in winter conditions though

Inventive fix all the same though :)

Yeah we'll see. until I find a better solution or go the Kevin route and just cut the damned thing out.
You don't need it cut it out.

Mine was so mangled up after bottoming out so many times I needed to cut mine in half to get it out.

The only heat shield I have on my Focus is where the exhaust passes near the gas tank.
Yep, thats the one. It was a total mess.
Snow will do that.
Actuall it happened while driving into the Shell/Tim Hortons at Markham and Lawrance. No snow, it happened in early spring, just some melting stuff around. Steeper driveway and caught it on the sidewalk. I didn't think I was low enough to hit, but apparently I was. Oops
