Careful, you'd be surprised what night vision cameras pick up when the person being taped doesn't realize it.

Canadian ST,May 27 2008, 09:02 AM Wrote:Well I've been reading my service manual for my 08 and it states that oil changes are to be done ever 12'000km with semi synthetic oil. I personally think that is a rather high amount of km between changes so I called my dealership and they recommend to do every 8'000km.

My friends Cooper S is recommended for 16k changes with full synthetic, which has done him good. 180,000kms later and he beats on it every drive with no problems.

I can't believe how many backyard mechanics and even 'certified' ones forget the new washer. If anyone does, I suggest you don't.

that's a good point.. i think most ppl fall under severe service due to stop and go driving.

best practice is to start off with the severe service interval and extend the interval based on used oil analysis results

Ok so I went to Wal-Mart and got my oil changed. For $54.99 I got full synthetic and an engine flush (it was a promo) Eastgate wanted $11.00 a liter just for semi-synthetic. I think next time I will by the Oem filter because I heard the Fram filters are junk.

I was over in the States last week at Wal-Mart, picked up some oil change supplies.

Motorcraft FL-400S filter : $3.38
Motorcraft 5w20 semi-synth 5 qt jug : $10.38 ($2.48 per qt in seperate bottles)

20 minutes in the driveway with ramps and done. :)

Wow, I couldnt find semi synthetic here in 5w20? Well I still can't believe that the dealership wanted $85 for a semi synthetic oil change??

Ok, quick question.

What do you guys use for a Motorcraft filter? The FL-400S or the FL-2005? The card at Walmart said Fl-400S, but now online I see that the FL-2005 is spec'd. Any clue?

Edit: Ok, done some research. You can use either, one is just messier when you take it off (FL2005 has an extra valve to hold the oil in it).

Read closer for the oil specs. In my 2007 is says for US spec oil to be 5W20 semi but in Canada it says a quality 5W20.

Right now I run the six months for oil changes. I've only had one done, bought the car in August 2007. I only put on 4500-5000km for six months.

My 2000's oil is due to be changed.

In Ottawa some of the Canadian Tire stores accept used oil as long as it is in the jugs. I have about 2 dozen in the garage waiting to go but I just procrastinate. I would call and ask. There may be 1 or 2 locations that accept it.

Have you checked out Mohawk Ford? I got my car there and that's where I take it for all service. When I was shopping around for my car Eastgate Ford not only had "required" fees in the cost of the car (found out when I went to Mohawk and the same car was over $500 cheaper), their service department pricing was about $5 more per service then Mohawk. Mohawk has unforunately jacked up their prices in the last few months though so I'm not sure if they are cheaper now or not. (I do get a $2 off coupon for coming back each time, haha)

Like Andrew said I too use the Fram filters. Change them every 4000K and I have no problem with them. My car is now just reaching 100,000K and still puring like a Lion. I priced out the filter for my 05 Duratec at Dixie Ford and they wanted 15 with tax for it (f*** that s***), Wix suppliers wnat about 7 each, and I go to the states once in a while and pick up the Fram Gaurd filter for 4 bucks and Castrol Syntech 5W20 5qt for $20 too. So y fix whats not broken. I use fram all the way.

Oh ya and find your local city waste dumping site and they take your used oil for free because they get paid to take it away used for WD40and other such lubricants.
So bottle that s*** up and start selling it.
