RE: escort motor swap - Mystake - 01-13-2012 Holy hell dude that's awful. take him down, all the way. Also, depending how your lease is structured can help you drop responsibility or be equally responsible for the contents of the garage (tip: if you only lease the one room - that's more or less what you're liable for and you could possibly claim ignorance to the contents of the garage being stolen. "Your honour, I kept to myself and in my room" edit: is that VCT stuff easy to swap over?? I need my etest done, my EGR's been disabled for the moment and I wouldn't miss it if it were completely gone. Any side effects from taking it off, for future mods? RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-13-2012 so far everythings swapping over perfectly fine (except the timing belt cover issue) other than that everything lines up just the way it should I must add though, i haven't installed the motor or anything yet so im not sure how the computer and everythings going to work...we'll have to wait and see! RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-16-2012 another photo update, here's the differences on the windage trays. left - escort motor, right - focus motor. a crazy difference. but a nice easy swap over with a new $50 gasket to get the tranny to fit properly. but again. it all lines up perfectly with no hassle what so ever RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 01-17-2012 did you buy your gasket yet? I have a brand new engine skirt gasket... RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-17-2012 how much you want for it? i still gotta get one RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 01-17-2012 YS4Z-6710-AA - Engine Skirt Gasket. $30. Its brand new still in the package, like buying it from ford. RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-22-2012 so quick question guys! for the power steering line(s), is it okay to shorten it to relocate it? wanna get it out of the way and make under the hood look relatively clean, same with the coolant overflow tank, whats the best method of moving that or cleaning that massive bulky looking thing outta there, haha I wanna run my turbo plumbing around that route instead of over the entire engine bay across the battery and down, so im thinking i might throw the power steering fluid housing thing under my passenger fender/bumper (out of sight) and the coolant overflow tank over to where the air box used to be...or if anyone knows a better way to do so i'd love to hear all ideas thanks in advance! RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 01-22-2012 as long as the coolant resevoir is higher than the tstat housing you are ok, unfortunatly your limited to top mount locations. I had moved both the PS resevoir and coolant tank to the drivers side of the engie. That and re-locating battery to the trunk should space everything out nicely. Here is a pic of my old car engine bay: RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-23-2012 Awesome thanks. I'm moving my battery to the trunk as well. What gauge wire did you use to run the battery to the trunk? And for the power steering line. Can I replace it with a different hose. Or should I just cut down what's already existing? RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-28-2012 going to start throwing the foci back together this weekend (need to move it for some renovations going on in the garage). quick question though, is it normal for the inside of my cat to be completely hollow? haha it wont hurt it at all will it? I already bought an aftermarket cat and welded it to my exhaust so it should be good. RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 01-28-2012 I used 0/1 gauge welding wire for my relocate and a breaker in the trunk. U can use a fuse also...maybe even both, being able to cut the power easily was a nice feature. Hollow cat...lol RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-30-2012 alright! so the focus is almost put back together! sorry for the delay in picks...gotta get a new camera cord. I need an alternator now, while trying to remove the pulley...things got f**ked up haha. so my alternators done for. So does anyone have a cheap alternator they wanna get rid of? if not i'll just have to hit a scrap yard. RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 01-31-2012 Okay all, quick update!!! motor and tranny are together and mounted in engine bay! woohoo! nothings hooked up yet (wiring and coolant hoses, etc). But it will be this week. again waiting on getting a new camera cord to show you guys some pics. now here's another question for you guys...anyone know anything about the VCT delete kits? I dont think they still make them but im sure you can fabricate something...maybe? GFXJamie mentioned swap the cams and cam gears over from from the focus, Hardk0re mentioned port & polish focus head and throw that on, or if i can find a VCT delete or even just leave it unplugged...dont think it'll hurt it at all do ya? Im sure we'll figure something out. haha let me know if anyone has anymore ideas and i'll push forward on getting everything back together! RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 02-03-2012 okay, so i found out a valuable lesson today, dropping camera means breaking it...so I lost a lot of "putting everything together" pictures. But! I did run down and take a pic of what she looks like now. and here it is. after moving back to KW and the car remaining in brantford, (and that being my daily driver)...I havent had a chance to work on it as much as i would have liked. so shes not as spotles as i'd like her to be. but as long as she starts and works for not its all good. here's how im planning to run the turbo plumbing. not sure the best route to do the coolant overflow tank yet, either just move it to the other side or make a custom one like i've seen other people have (those square ones). RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 02-21-2012 alright, quick update on the foci project! Since last updating I realized my entire driver side wheel assembly was f**ked, snapped tie end, broken cv joint on axle, bad bearing and broken steering knucke (where the caliper bolt goes). Ended up having to tap out the Axle from the other side. If you do that method be careful! I broke off half a flat head screw driver into my tranny. Luckily I fished it back out with a bendable magnet. So all the driver side is back together finally. valve covers painted metallic silver now. transmission linkage is all connected ready to go. Starters bolted back on, wiring is all done and connected. The last problem im having is the Battery relocate to the back. and dip stick. (escort - focus motors have different dip sticks, so you gotta swap'em) So once thats done, All fluids can go on and time to fire it up! can't wait. RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 02-29-2012 quick update! paintedmy valve cover metallic silver, couldnt stand looking at that ugly black anymore. swapped my coil pack to the escort one, looking to get an accel one later later on in the year. Also, finally (after about a 2 months haha) got another alternator, swapped the pulley over to the AEM tru power pulley, not sure if it will do much or anything at all for that matter, but the girlfriend bought it for me for xmas and she keeps bugging me to put it on so i did. lol. Just awaiting my K&N filter from gfx jamie and she'll be good to fire up! I was going to cheap out and buy a ractive filter for now, but decided to just spend the extra money now and go K&N. Also looked into purchasing my tuner soon for the turbo kit. (if anyone has any spare turbo parts kicking around let me! i might be interested in purchasing them, i need an intercooler and some plumbing still). i found the cheapest and quickest way to get a SCT tuner for us canadians is goto steeda in milton and buy one. BUT! get randy (a smart and super nice tuner from FSWERKS) to tune it. i dont think id trust steeda tuning my car...haha so yes, the zoomer is almost road worthy! just seeing if i can get a good deal on a used intercooler, if not. i'll just spend the money and get a new one! can't wait till dyno day now. BUT! get randy (a smart and super nice tuner from FSWERKS) to tune it. i dont think id trust steeda tuning my car...haha Just a couple of thoughts on this point ... the X-Cal 3 comes preloaded with tunes; from Pat at Steeda Canada you will simply get the tunes that SCT writes for your ECU - from FSWerks IIRC you will get 3 of Randy's tunes. So if you plan on going to Randy later for custom tuning, you may want to consider / ask Randy if there's an additional cost to custom tuning a device purchased from someone else - in any event ... an X-Cal 3 from FSWerks is 379 US + shipping vs. 390 CAD from Steeda plus the cost of shipping or gas to go there - except for the timing aspect, it seems pretty close in $ to me. RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-01-2012 good point. is there anyway to get a tuner with no pre tunes or anything? that way randy would be able to do a fresh start type deal? even then, pay the money and get randys pretune isnt a bad idea either. As for custom tuning you need to get the XCal3 first anyway to do the data logging ... assuming you want a Randy tune I think the principal that would serve you best is to get max goodwill from FSwerks by purchasing everything from them - especially considering it won't really cost you more. I'll be retuning once my new engine with JRSC is installed, so I'm interested to see how this works out for you. |
