and that's part of the issue... I'm still not at the stage where I just want a car to get me from A to B (I'd buy a Corolla if that was the case) but something that has a little extra "something, something"
Which is why when I got to my original dealer that sold me the Focus and the used AWD Fusion had "just sold" I turned down any attempt to steer me into any one of the FWD Fusions they had on the lot.
If I wasn't so worried about driving a Mustang in the winter I'd have had my pick of several V6's in my price range <_<

I do agree with that, however I get to drive a few Mitsubishi Lancers here at work, they are as good as a Focus believe it or not, and the set up of the interior on the 2007+ is rather well thought out, not to mention they arn't that bad in the snow.

I've never driven a Lancer, but I am familiar with their quality ratings as determined by JDPower ... and both initial quality and long term quality are way below industry average - not to mention that Mitsubishi is probably the one car company in Canada that is at credible risk of closing up shop ... there's something to be said about the devil you know, although I think in reading some of Daniel's posts the Focus is in fact on his list - it's a problem with availability of the model and specs he's looking for - specifically SES auto with SAP.

i have not gotten an insurance quote in canada ever so i'm not sure.. for me (and others with my same rating characteristics in the US) it pretty much cost the same to insurance anything... appx $1000/yr ($500k limits for liability, $500 deductible for comp and collision)
i've priced out insurance for myself for a lot of cars all across the spectrum and the difference between a corolla and a z06 is around $200/yr.. in my opinion, the fixed costs of owning a car (license,registration, insurance, fuel) vary little from vehicle to vehicle.. its just the actual cost of purchasing and maintenance/reliability that makes one car more expensive to own than another
also only thing 'special' things about me that might prevent others from getting my insurance rate are: post grad degree, super high credit score (780-793), and 6yrs no accident no collision..

Though I did poke around the Kanetix website and it showed the Focus/Fusion/Escape are roughly the same for me to insure (with teh Focus being the highest of the three... the injury component being the major downfall)

The other hassle is the control layout though... I have a co-worker with a G35 for example, beautiful car but an ergonomic disaster for someone in my position physically :(

Rode in my mom's '08, maybe it's unfair comparing a model with near zero options (A/C & auto... that's it) but I certainly found the driving position not to my liking at all :( (Like sitting on a highchair)

The problem with the G35 that he has is the wiper controls on the right hand side. I was able to get away with it in the Focus sedan b/c they were relatively easy (except changing wiper speeds which was an absolute b^%&h because of the need to twist and the damn fixed intermittent positions)
Other hassles were the HVAC controls, too spread out (In fact the '08 Focus, ina retarded move IMO, puts the heat control farthest away from you and the fan speed closest :blink:)
