RE: escort motor swap - Mystake - 03-01-2012

FYI I didn't get a single pre-tune from Randy, just the 91 octane tune that I ordered.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-02-2012

i want the 91 octane tune and egr delete at least.

RE: escort motor swap - GFXjamie - 03-02-2012

you are going to need custom tuning likely to make the motor work, i doubt a pre-boxed tune will do the trick. I know in other built motors they are not spec'd to make power at the different compression ratio's

RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 03-02-2012

Yes its going to be 100% custom, have you talked to randy about this yet?

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-02-2012

well we'll all just have to wait and see now wont we haha. the only difference in the motor is the head, and lack of egr. so i cant im curious myself how shes going to run on the initial start up lol. either way im going to have to tune it. just trying to figure the best way. and by the sounds of it, just goto FSWERKS and randy. lol so thats what I shall do!
I talked to Randy too, he mentioned i should get a NA tune, which is 300. But i wanna throw that turbo in too...so instead of doing a NA tune then turbo tune, think i could get away with getting a custom turbo tune? lol seeing as i'll have to tune it anways

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-06-2012

So the foci is almost road worthy again haha. motors in, sensors all hooked up. Dip stick has been modified...not the best but it works haha. Just need to Bleed my hydraulic clutch line, put tranny fluid in, and get an axle nut for the driver side and shes back on the road again!

Not completed...but at least driveable haha.

so here's some pics...

Quick pic of engine bay with VCT motor, need air filter and breather installed still. Still want to move that stupid power steering line, its simply in the way and ugly as f**k haha. also need to run some wire to the back for that lovely battery relocate.

Here's the zetec motor that came with the car, 353 486kms on it. Rusty as hell! haha the insides are still mint though. no oil sludge what so ever. looks just as nice inside as the new(er) motor with 46 000 kms on it. So im going to tear everything apart and clean it up. just for the fact of why not...it'll keep me busy and out of trouble lol.

replaced every bearing wheel bearing...all broke when removing knuckle/rear drum. so finally got the wheels on!

To go with all new wheel bearings, Upgraded the tie rod ends as well. Nice new MOOG tie rod ends and MOOG swaybar links too (driver side was donated from GFXjamie after demo-ing my stock one with a hammer...ahaha I owe him 1 link now)

Quick pic of my ugly wheel well...threw some undercoat paint around the wheel well, sanded down A LOT of rust and pactched up some holes under there too. Decided to run some guage wiring (vacuum line and Wideband sensor) down that way too. Also, HID ballast placement under front bumper, perfect place to hide that massive ballast and wiring.

RE: escort motor swap - 02_svt_guy - 03-06-2012

Whats with the HPF sticker on the windshield.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-06-2012

I ordered a couple of things off the site and they sent a small HPF sticker and i just liked the look of it, so i remade it Corel and cut a larger one for my windsheild lol. I've been meaning to replace it with something else.

Was going to put MOVE OVER ---> in reverse across the top of the windsheild but idk yet.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-09-2012

Okay so, Got everything together finally. all fluids in (oil, coolant, tranny fluid etc.) wired everything up, put the battery in, turned the key to ACC, pushed the clutch down, turned the key to ON and!!!.....nothing. not even a tick. haha that was at 12am, so i didnt mess around with anything, just went home to bed. So tonight I have to run back to brantford to the garage and attempt to get her started.

RE: escort motor swap - gfxfocus - 03-10-2012

looking to be a nice build

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-10-2012

Thank you. It's a quick sloppy build haha but its my first build so I didnt expect perfection Tongue

RE: escort motor swap - gfxfocus - 03-10-2012

it tends to happen but its a learning process at the same time

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-12-2012

So car starts. But won't run Sad kicks over and starts beautifully. Runs decent for about 5 -10 seconds then dies on me.

Video uploaded to Facebook.

RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 03-12-2012

I think this is probably VCT related.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-17-2012

Okay, so update again! car went from running...ish. to not running at all, to fuel issue to intake issue back to fuel issue and now she runs and idles for more than 10 seconds now...but shes still not driveable Sad so after talking to several people, ive simply come to the conclusion to go out and get a 98 escort pcm and wiring harness, as much as i dont want to and its going to be a pain in the ass, everyone is telling me that'll make my car run properly lol.

So come tomorrow Im towing the car back to KW. hitting up the cambridge scrappers and doing a s**t load of wiring this weekend and praying to god it works. if not...then im just bolting up the turbo and getting it dyno tuned. so yes...thats my plan...I will keep you all updated and post pics of a lot of wires soon. haha

On the bright side. I can take the time to clean up and hide any and all wires.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-19-2012

So, started removing the wiring harness from the focus, what a task that is haha. Seeing as the weather was nice i also started to clean up the engine bay, got the driver side done...then got lazy lol.

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-23-2012

So...wiring sucks ball. Took me all morning sat and then again all morning tuesday at the scrappers to get the wiring harness out of an escort..

so yeah, this sucks balls. Got the ECU as well...i've been told this will solve all my problems...i think its just going to cause more headaches than anything. lol all i keep thinking is what the f**k did i get myself into!?!?!

RE: escort motor swap - hardk0re - 03-23-2012

I don't think the escort had a PATS system so is that even going to work? I think a stock focus head should be the best option, of course that leaves all sorts of other problems that make come up... but your deep into uncharted terretories...

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-24-2012

uncharted terretories...lol I really do wonder what i got myself into haha wiring should be finished this weekend. hoping to god it works.asking around for help sucks on this project...haha nobody knows really how to help. Im determined to get this all running together though!

So yes any helpful suggestions or information is greatly appreciated! Smile

RE: escort motor swap - stupica1 - 03-27-2012

alright guys. im close to admitting defeat here. The escort wiring...yeah not going to happen anytime soon. considering this is my daily driver...its hurting me like mad not having it on the road. So I think what I am going to do is like hardk0re suggested, swap the head, clean up and plug all the focus wiring back in buy a tuner and get it nicely tuned for the summer.
