A pretty damning review by Mr. Clarkson below. Only really posting because he mentions the Focus a few times:
re/ RWD and weight balance:
"You can feel the benefits, immediately, in the 1-series. Even at normal, trundling-about speeds it feels more together than even the Focus, king of the front-drivers. "
re/ comparison of 1 Series to other hatches:
"So if you want a hatchback, buy a Focus. "

Yep, in 1 of my evo mags they test drove the bmw 1series, ford focus, and some peugot htachback ( I think)....all deisel models.
They said the same thing, the focus won the comp hands down.
