Who Says Crossing The Border Is Hard? - Raine - 11-13-2005 On the way down to the Leafs game last night: "Good evening" "Hi there gentlemen. Your destination?" "HSBC Arena" "Ah, going to the game?" "Yessir, should be a good one" "Have your ID's on you please?" **give him the drivers licenses** "And who's car is this?" "It's mine, sir" "just be a second" **runs the ID's thru the computer** "Can you just quickly pop the trunk for me please?" "Sure thing" **guy peaks around the hatch** "This speaker box (sub) hooked up?" "Yessir it is" **taps on the floor of the hatch** "Enjoy the game gentlemen, take the I 190 to your right" "Thanks very much" On the way home (now fully decked out in Leafs gear) "Destination guys?" "Toronto" "Country of residence?" "Canada" "How long were you gone for?" "Just for the game" "Bringing any goods back into the country?" "Just us!" "Welcome Home guys" Didn't check the drivers licenses or anything. And she was cute. Who Says Crossing The Border Is Hard? - 2001 ZTS - 11-13-2005 I went to the US early in the spring and didn't get asked for any ID at all. Keeping the old military haircut and being a honky sure has its benefits. It also helps that my answer to the question "where are you going" was "I have a meeting with the US Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security." Who Says Crossing The Border Is Hard? - paolo - 11-13-2005 Raine, you should have gone dressed up like in 2001's signature, then they wouldnt have even asked you any questions at all, just waived you to "GO ON, GO ON!" Mo, you forget, my father is muslim, and my name as listed on the drivers license, birth certificate, and all other ID is "Ali"... that's just as Muslim as Mohammed/Mohamad. I haven't gone by that for years as I do not follow the religion to which the name has connotation, however it is what the border guys see... I've been stopped and questioned at the airport about it because I travel on an Irish passport with a Muslim name, having been born in Canada and my last trip (before the one this summer) out of country was to Turkey... doesn't really add up. Believe me I feel your pain. Who Says Crossing The Border Is Hard? - torradan - 11-14-2005 I was going to ask.. how many of you poor bastards went home by way of the Peace Bridge? What a cluster screw that was! And that one accident sure didn't help things where that pickup truck decided to check out the backseat of that car. Michelle was looking at the Peace Bridge as we crossed under it.. "Is all that traffic going to the bridge?" (as she sees nothing but tail lights on the bridge going into Canada)... "Yes".. "My people really need to look at maps, they evidently don't know there are two other border crossings".. hehe |
