Not even the air force knows exactly when this was taken, but they suspect it was during either an operational training exercise or a Combat Archer international fighter competition. A CF-18 and a CF-5a trainer jet fly in formation with Cold Lake, Alberta in the b/g Two CF-18's fly wingman to a Mig-29, escorting the Russian fighter over the Rockies. Cool to note is that this was this first time the Mig-29 had appeared publically in North America (was one of two that came over for an air show) and that during said show, Maj. Bob Wade actually got to fly the dual-seater version of the craft, making him the first North American pilot to ever fly a Russian Mig (publically). A cool fact about the pic that a keen eye will spot is that the Hornet in the foreground is a single seater, whereas the one in the b/g is a dual-seater... cool to see them not just together but in formation with a Russian Mig :P This is my favourite CF-18 pic. Slim, do you think next time your at work you could do some digging and see if I can get a full size print of this? I know the air force was running some promotional pictures for sale a few years back, hoping I can get this in poster size and frame it on my wall. It's from 1989, and the jets were enroute to Abbotsford Airshow, if that helps :) If Only My Focus Could Go This Fast - Slimsride - 11-06-2005 ^^^ No prob Raine, I'm sure the phototechs on base may know how to get thier hands on this pic. I know a few of them, so i'll "snoop" around. I can tell you know your aircraft....not too many would actually know the difference between a single and a dual, even at this close. to the rest of you...yeah yeah i know i post alot of CF-18 pics...but hey it's my job, i love it, they are still one of the best aircraft out there, and we ALWAYS kick the americans asses when we do exercises with them. The F-16's have NOTHING on this jet, F-15's are too big to win against this jet. Sure they are 25+ years old now....but that's my job..to keep them flying, and i will...atleast till 2017 when they are slated to either undergo another upgrade, or be retired all together. Time will tell. |
