Video Game Violence - darkpuppet - 10-15-2005 I don't know if people keep up to date on conservative movements that directly link videogame violence with real-world violence, but there has been some interesting news on one of the larger crackpots... from this story Quote:Florida attorney and anti-videogame campaigner Jack Thompson has come under fire from America's National Institute on Media and the Family for claiming to have the support of the group in his regular open letters. I've been following the saga on Penny-Arcade, and it's made for some great reading. Go ahead and read today's news post at penny-arcade.com hell, if you haven't been following PA for a while now, you should take it up.. they're always a great read. Video Game Violence - Frost__2001 - 10-15-2005 since more or less video games came out people have been against them............ and that's going back more the 20 years now!!! I like the sound of that game! Video Game Violence - darkpuppet - 10-15-2005 Death Race (1976) ![]() Is widely recognized as the 1st ever controversial violent game. race your car and run over as many gremlins as possible. This game created such an outcry in the community that it was actually pulled from distribution. It even ended up on an episode of 60 Minutes believe it or not. So what was so bad about this game? Apparently, everytime you drove over a gremlin, an aaaahk -like sound effect was played. I know I would be outraged. [edit].. correction, it was an arcade game.. my bad[/edit] Video Game Violence - darkpuppet - 10-15-2005 the 1st controversial home console game was Custer's Revenge (1983). it involved you playing as Kernel Custer, and your mission was to pillage and rape as many native women as possible. ![]() Video Game Violence - NefCanuck - 10-15-2005 darkpuppet,Oct 14 2005, 03:47 PM Wrote:the 1st controversial home console game was Custer's Revenge (1983). Lord, makes the Porky's videogame for Atari 2600 look almost tame by comparison (I remember playing that way back when... even back then game developers must have been smoking some serious stuff :P) NefCanuck Video Game Violence - scoobasteve - 10-15-2005 hahah i like the sound of that game too does anyone else remember all the sex and porn games for the commodore 64 and they complain about all the games today :S Video Game Violence - nass - 10-15-2005 all I have to say is that they are all F*CKING VIDEO GAMES. Video games, books, TV etc... were never meant to replace the parent. The parents are always responsible for what their children do, NOT tv books, video games music.... it's time to stop pointing the finger at causes for our kids being the way they are, they are your responsibility until they are 18 don't pass the buck and say music made your precious bobby pull a gun and slaughter 13 classmates and the class hampster it's you that should be there for your kids to disapline and counsel. I think things started to go all wrong when the damn hippies started the whole " don't beat your kids " crap. there is a reason why kids 30 years ago weren't like this..... cause they got serious beats if they stepped out of line, today you get time outs and s**t. I still have scars from growing up when I stepped outof line and I thank my parents for every single beating I got, why? cause I deserved them. remember when you point the finger there are always 3 pointing right back at you Video Game Violence - Slimsride - 10-15-2005 nass,Oct 14 2005, 02:35 PM Wrote:all I have to say is that they are all F*CKING VIDEO GAMES. HERE HERE...i soooo agree. I'm sorry, but i still believe that the reason kids now a days have no respect for anything is the fact they dont' get an ass kicking anymore. If i did half the s**t these kids do, oh man i would of got the beats bad..and you know what, i'm okay..i'm fine, i'm not some messed up kid that walks into a highschool and starts shooting. as Bill Cosby said in one of his stand up..."I brought you into this world, I can take you out" Okay i agree there is a point where discipline can turn into child abuse, but I think spanking a kid needs to be done ONCE...atleast. I have only ever had to spanked my daughter once....and she's 8 now....and she's a great kid. Mind you that may change when she's a teen, but i'll deal with that later... Teach the kid who's boss. I know i was scared piss-less of my dad when i was younger...adn it's time to bring that era back again..otherwise the ride to hell in a handbag, is gonna be even worse. Fackin teenagers getting knocked up at 13 or 14 these days... ridiculous. Reason for it? A million and one things, but lack of parental discretion is a big thing. Parents need to teach their children virtues and morals... and not just tell their kids, but TEACH them. Either that or make 2 years military service mandatory for every child born under the Canadian Flag that wants to be "violent" :D :D :D **thumbs up** Video Game Violence - NOS2Go4Me - 10-17-2005 Here's the deal: once kids reach their teenage years, the mystique of trying to be cool and wondering what the rest of the world thinks overtakes them, and it's a done deal. I got to witness this transformation first-hand again on the weekend. We have our LAN party as an all-ages event. We obviously alow the nephews of the store owner where we play to join in. One of his nephews, no more than 13, spent the entire night listening to horridly loud (even for me) classic rock, making a mess around his computer, and telling his mother to go wait in the car for a couple of hours because he didn't want to go home yet. When his parents were gone, with the exception of the continuously-loud music, he was quite well-behaved. I just don't get this new crop of kids. It's one thing to be rebellious, but now they have to take it to a point where rebelling and being disrespectful is like BREATHING. It's disgusting. Video Game Violence - darkpuppet - 10-18-2005 I'd suggest people head to PA and read their news updates. Turns out a mod team made his little videogame that he suggested. At which point Jack Thompson reneged on his promised $10,000 to the charity of choice. So Penny-Arcade stepped in and made the donation on his behalf... Quote:Mon, October 17 2005 - 12:04 PM Penny-Arcade = the best of everything videogaming.
