August sales up 7.6 per cent

Richmond Hill, Ontario - Passenger car and light truck sales were up 7.6 per cent, indicating that deep discounting that spread across the market in August is continuing to drive sales, says industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. GM sales were down 3.8 per cent, while import nameplate vehicles were up 12.8 per cent. Surprisingly, for the first time ever, Ford was outsold not only by GM, but by DaimlerChrysler and Honda. Overall, a total of 142,537 vehicles were sold in Canada in August.

Not entirely surprising, considering the vehicles offered... most notably,

Chyrsler 300 > Ford Five Hundred.
Pacifica > Freestyle

Yep... serves ford right. for their shitty cars and shittier service.

Still though

Focus > Sx2.0
Focus > Cobalt

but then

Focus ST < Cobalt SS
Focus ST < SRT 4

It only goes to show that people are starting to be wise to the domestic manufacturers and saw right through this new scam of theres called "Employee Discounts" this will have little effect on the short term and maybe even a negative one in the long term. Domestic Manufacturers should start thinking about customer service and quality instead of trying to beat the Asian Manufacturers on price.

Laterz :)

Look how close Toyota is too. Only a couple hundred units behind.

Ford Is #4 For First Time In Canada - crazikev - 09-03-2005

Focus ST < Mazda3 GT

I wouldn't even put the ST in the same catagory as the SS/SRT4. The 05+ Focus is dead to me. Updated engines, but old chassis? Mazda has the updated engines AND chassis. One thing I do agree with on is SERVES FORD RIGHT.

Hey "fan boy",

Ford also includes Lincoln so face the fact they have been routed and will soon fall behind Toyota too. All Toyota has to do is right now is sell 2.5% more cars or have Ford sell 2.5% less and they are there.

Pretty sure their won't be many people rushing out to buy massive Ford trucks or SUV's this month.

See you again when the September numbers come out. ;)

does that include the Honda lawnmower sales too? Id like to see some of those #s too, see where John Deere is at comapred to this monster, maybe Ford should start getting there engines from Deere, 500HP- 18 speed tranny anyone?

Ford Is #4 For First Time In Canada - Drivesthebeast - 09-04-2005

Well, I don't concern myself with the sales market...I enjoy the car I have a lot, it's been nothing but good to me. Personally, I feel that you get more car for the money in an ST over a M3 GT...I think Ford lost their way with their cars when they started investing most of their resources in the truck R& D...

I don't care how many cars toyota or honda sell...unless you buy the top model of everything, their cars are boring...cookie cutter boring...

I think things will get better with the fusiona/zephyr and the 06 explorer hittin showrooms along with the 06 f150 qhich has new options like a 6.5 foot bed on the supercrew. If we all wanted to play dirty though ford should include all thier other brands B)

And still they can sell all the cars they want in North America, but the Japs let us sell only a small select amount of our cars over in Japan.

When will the federal government wake up? Let's even the playing field and maybe we will stand a chance. Soon there won't be a NA auto industry and all of us, meaning everyone in NA, will be f_cked!

ah, we're gonna be f**ked anyway once the oil runs out.

yeah, but what good is having the federal government step in again? It's only going to delay the innevitability. North America is still the largest automotive consumer market out there, and if north american companies made decent cars, people would buy them.

Years and years of the NA automotive industry turning a blind eye to the market and relying on the government to constantly bail them out is going to bite them in the ass.

It's like a lot of things in the manufacturing sector, we want it cheaper, but aren't willing to make it for cheap. So someone else has to make it cheap so we'll buy it.

There is no shortage of oil in the world. Just a lot of little greedy men wanting us to believe there is a shortage to justify the prices we are paying.

I understand your point Steve, but what he is referring to is the fact it's not a fair game. If the Asian market allowed significant numbers without tariffs of NA automakers into their countries, we would do very well overseas. Especially in the truck market (Have you seen the Honda , I am not going to call it a truck, POS?)

This has long been a thorn in any autoworkers side that the automotive world is not a fair world. But then again, when is life fair. All were asking is for a fair playing field. Open up the worldwide market to all and see how much better we all do.
