Bad Idle - mysterygirl - 03-02-2005 My car is idling really bad lately. Bouncing up and down from 500rpm to 1500rpm. My engine mods are Cold Air Intake (Injen), Shorty Header, 2.5 Dual exhaust (except flex pipe), and Diablo chip. Never had this problem in the summer. Could it have anything to do with the cold winter air? If so, can someone explain to me why it's idling like that? Bad Idle - S2 - 03-02-2005 What year is your focus? Have you had all the recalls done? Bad Idle - BrooksZX3 - 03-02-2005 can you explain its behaviour more, as in does it lower slowly then almost stall then shoot up to 15rpm etc...?? and does it only fluctuate at idle? Yes....it almost seems like it is going to stall then shoots up....or I have to rev the gas to bring it back up to normal. And when it seems like it is going to stall the lights dim?! Btw it's a 2004 model. I had a 2001 before and didn't experience this problem? Any suggestions? Bad Idle - S2 - 03-02-2005 Your still running the stock TB right? Bad Idle - mysterygirl - 03-02-2005 S2,Mar 1 2005, 08:42 PM Wrote:Your still running the stock TB right? Yep, Throtle Body still stock. All the engine mods I have, are listed. Pretty simple setup. OH YEAH! I got an automatic car starter too. My car is manual. You think they could have messed it up? RECALLS!!!!??? What recalls are there? Bad Idle - S2 - 03-02-2005 mysterygirl,Mar 1 2005, 03:19 PM Wrote:S2,Mar 1 2005, 08:42 PM Wrote:Your still running the stock TB right? TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title 04-8-1 MAY 04 M/T - Rattling Noise at Idle With Clutch Pedal Released 04-6-1 APR 04 Suspension - Creak, Crunch, Grinding or Rattle Noise 04-5-5 MAR 04 Lighting - Turn Signal Lamps Won't Self-Cancel 04-5-8 MAR 03 Interior - Carpet Pulling Away From Kick Panel Yeah so none of those. Assuming you got the EGR disable with your DIABLO right? Bad Idle - ZX3TUNR - 03-02-2005 Just for fun. Check the plugs. Prolly not the problem but only takes 2 mins. I would seriosly pop the hood while its running and see if you hear or see anything unusual going on in the engine bay. Those are not recalls s2 posted. There TSB. Funny cause I knew that actually.... :P Bad Idle - ZX3TUNR - 03-02-2005 does ford even do tsb for free? or do you have to pay for those? Bad Idle - coolsvt - 03-02-2005 I would say your cold air intake(water in the intake) is the problem, most of the aftermarket cold air intake position the filter to low. First check if your filter is dry,and I would switch back to the stock air box for the winter. B) Bad Idle - french_connection - 03-02-2005 my car does the same thing and allI have for engine mod is a K&N cone filter. also my brake light come up when I accelerate hard and when I brake hard... Have no idea why the hell, and also my batterie light comes up when I come to a stop.... freaking POS but I still love it... Bad Idle - yeloZX3 - 03-02-2005 yea maybe the plugs, or may also be the plug wires started to fail. Bad Idle - ZX3TUNR - 03-02-2005 Sounds loud the exact same thing I had one time. Im not sure how but one day when I was messing around under the hood I some how managed to pop off a plug wire just a tad. LOL Worth double checking for sure. B) My cold air intake is an INjen one, so mine doesn't "go low", it sits "up high". http://www.pbase.com/rmercado_august2004/image/32919484 My car is fairly new with only 20k on it, so this is weird. Maybe it will cure itself in the summer. I'll check the plug then when it is warmer. Thanks guys. Bad Idle - Flofocus - 03-03-2005 Check you MAF connection. make sure its really screwed well into the intake tube. Any little crack will throw off your Meter. Bad Idle - S2 - 03-03-2005 ZX3TUNR,Mar 1 2005, 07:07 PM Wrote:does ford even do tsb for free? or do you have to pay for those? Depends but from what I know, it's an extension on the warranty if you still have it. I had a couple things fixed under warranty that were deemed TSB's and no cost to me. Bad Idle - 01-yellow-ZX3 - 03-03-2005 Like the other guys have mentioned, its more than likely one of the following: - bad gas, maybe some condensation in your tank - dirty or leaking MAFS - spark plugs - spark plug wires Bad Idle - j3rt - 03-03-2005 Natasha, I would lean towards moisture or water in your intake. I've got a K&N filter on the stock intake. On a particularily damp highway drive, my car suffered similar symptons.
