Partial-painted Side Mirrors - Jaspher - 02-02-2005 Has anyone remove their side mirror covers for painting. I'm trying to figure out how to remove them but I can get the mirror glass out so I can't access the clips for the mirror covers. I have manual mirrors. Thanks. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - 01-yellow-ZX3 - 02-02-2005 You don't need to take the glass out. I did mine awhile ago, so I don't remember the exact number, but I'm pretty sure that theres 4 clips that keep the front of the mirror cap on. Best bet is to find a super skinny flashlight (I used a mini led light). Point the mirror all the way up, then find the bottom clips. Find a super long skinny flat screwdriver, and pop the bottom two clips out. Then point the mirror down, then pop the two top clips out. Voila, the mirror cap pops off. Here's mine: Partial-painted Side Mirrors - guilty - 02-02-2005 Here's a picture of my european mirrors with the covers off.. not sure if the stock mirrors come apart with the same clips, but I cant see why not.. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - 01-yellow-ZX3 - 02-02-2005 Pretty much the same, just different locations. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - Jaspher - 02-02-2005 thanks guys.. I'm gonna try it this weekend. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - hardk0re - 02-02-2005 There are three tabs. Mine had three or four tabs as well. I did them the same time I did my side mouldings. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - MAlby7 - 02-02-2005 Could you do a how to on how you took the covers off? hardk0re,Feb 1 2005, 09:38 PM Wrote:There are three tabs. Go to your local auto body supply shop, and get a custom made spray bomb to match your paint colour if you want to do things yourself. I too think its not a rice mod :) Partial-painted Side Mirrors - meford4u - 02-03-2005 FociPhil,Feb 2 2005, 05:28 PM Wrote:meford4u,Feb 2 2005, 03:14 AM Wrote:How to rice up your car...................by ZOOM Shhsh........I just like bugging him. Look for an autobody supply shop and they'll have everything you need to do the job right. Partial-painted Side Mirrors - Jaspher - 02-03-2005 thanks for the pics... I'll probably sand it down smooth then prime/ base paint/ clear then use hair dryer to bake the paint. then buff it with the buffer. I sanded mine down smooth with a palm sander. Worked very well. Then I sprayed an 'adhesion promoter' on top, then primed, then painted, then cleared. The end result after 2 years - a few rock chips, but other than that they look factory. Just remember to give it like at least a week before you wax and/or buffer anything. |
