Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-09-2004 What should be done (if anything) at 100,000? Hitting 100,000 Clicks - Flofocus - 09-09-2004 That would be maintenance service # 3 & 4: Maintenance Service #3 Change engine oil and replace filter 10 point inspection Inspect tires for wear and rotate Replace cabin/pollen air filter, if equipped Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake lines & hoses, and parking brake system Inspect steering linkage, suspension and, if equipped, drive shaft and ball joints Replace E/F Super Duty fuel filter Lubricate Light Truck transfer case shift linkage, if equipped, excluding Minivan Check 7.3 L diesel air filter minder, replace filter as required Maintenance Service #4 Change engine oil and replace filter 10 point inspection Inspect tires for wear and rotate Replace engine air filter and fuel filter Inspect platinum spark plugs every 50,000 km, replace every 100,000 km Replace non-platinum spark plugs every 50,000 km Automatic transmission/transaxle service Replace "green" engine coolant Replace "orange" engine coolant every 250,000 km/5 years Replace PCV valve, all 4 cylinder engines at 100,000 km intervals Inspect cam shaft belt on all 4 cylinder engines, every 100,000 km Replace Aspire cam shaft belt every 100,000 km Check Aspire idle speed Inspect Aspire ignition timing every 100,000 km http://www.ford.ca/english/Maintaining/Qua...are/default.asp Hitting 100,000 Clicks - GapBoyPCS - 09-09-2004 Personally, I'd move up auto tranny service to every 40 to 45,000 km. Preventive measure mainly because of some reputations for Ford automatic transmissions. If you haven't done so already, add these to a future maintenance visit: - fuel injector cleaner/system cleaner - power steering flush (every 60,000 km) Ah...100,000 km...now that was a milestone :) Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-10-2004 GapBoyPCS,Sep 9 2004, 01:51 AM Wrote:Personally, I'd move up auto tranny service to every 40 to 45,000 km. Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-10-2004 Ok, i'm trying to figure out what in the hell to get done to my focus for the big 100,000km service. The total list is: Change oil and oil filter. 10 point inspection. Inspect tires and rotate. Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake lines, and hoses, and parking brake system. Inspect steering linkage, suspension, drive shaft and ball joints. Replace spark plugs every 100,000kms (now). Replace green engine coolant. Replace PCV valve. replace aspire cam shaft belt every 100,000km (now). Check aspire idle speed. Inspect aspire ignition timing. Clean battery terminals. lubricate hinges, latches, locks and wiper arms. lunricate weather stripping. replace caliper spindle caps. replace caliper spindle nuts. I'm not getting a tranny service done because i got that done at 90,000km( also fuel filter). You guys also said I should also get a fuel injector service done ( cleaning). You think all i would have to do is get service 3 and 4 done but the dealer and ford are saying two differnt things so i just combined the two lists. So you think I should ( or actually need to) get all this s**t done?? How much is this gonna cost me? Thanks. Maybe check out Midas for the fluid flushes....maybe they will be cheaper. And for Ford saying you need more or whatever, print the page on that link I posted and show it to them. They can't really argue with what their own website says. Unless they've determined a problem that you should be addressing...ie: new rear shoes (your about at that point when they should be replaced) Most of that stuff can be done by you or a freind that has basic knowlede of cars and where fluids go.... You will do just fine going 6 months or 10000km. It is a money grab. Ford doesn't make money selling cars especialy cars with small margins like the Focus, they make money on financing and service. Having been there lots, life in Cape Breton is just not as hard on a car as 3 hours of stop and go traffic on the QEW each day or hauling a loaded trailer. Because of my mixed driving I have always, since day one. split the difference and go 4-1/2 months or 7500km. Now in your case I think you got your car used? If that is the case it is good to be cautious since you do not know how teh previous owner drove. This time you would be smart to do everything required for severe service at 100,000. Call Ford and ask them how much for a combo of Maint 3&4. They will be able to tell you how much it will cost by looking in thier book. I always call ahead and ask how much each maintenace schedule costs so i dont have any surprises. Hitting 100,000 Clicks - 2001 ZTS - 09-10-2004 Used to go to the island fairly often as my wife is from and in laws still are from Halifax. (I'm ex Navy). I have also taken some course at the marine school in Port Hawkesbury (TUNS) and the Coast Guard College. I have not been there for a few years though. I can't guess how much but i'm sure at the dealer it will be at many hundreds. When you get a 3 and 4 done together there is lots of overlap/duplication. get them to price the individual jobs themselves not the 'packages'. They can tell you over the phone I'm sure? Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-10-2004 I'll email them that list just to see. You should really check how much it is at the dealership first...in my opinion, because sometimes its cheaper. I know everyone is like, "no way, dealership is always more" but how many people even check? Heres what I recommend.... oil change at least every 5000kms. flush auto trans at least every 50,000kms but as stated earlier, 40,000kms would be better. if you have ever seen how dirty the fluid gets in a focus auto trans, then you would do it every 40,000kms. What I would also recommend is doing a complete flush, as opposed to just dropping the pan and changing the fluid, because you arent changing all the fluid that way. coolant should be flushed every 60,000kms...or if you see it start to turn brown before then, then you should change it(this happens quite frequently, depending on the use of the car) brakes should be checked at least every 20,000kms...focus' are hard on front brakes. its also good to rotate every 10,000kms, as they also have issues with cupping tires. tuneup at 100,000kms brake fluid flush at 100,000kms these are the main services I would be worried about. I will check the prices on some of these items and post if you like, I work at Evans Ford Lincoln in toronto ontario. Here are the prices I know off hand: complete trans flush(includes flush with cleaner and 15 liters of merconV, and a conditioner after the flush) $190 coolant flush $89.95 Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-12-2004 What about the friggin timing belt? Now people on other boards are saying I should do that around this time too! Hitting 100,000 Clicks - dannyq - 09-12-2004 Boost til' burst, you said i should do a tune-up, what does that include? Hitting 100,000 Clicks - boost til'bust - 09-13-2004 well, a tune-up these days isnt like the old days...they used to do cap and rotor, and plugs and plugwires.....but plugwires can be expensive these days...at my dealer they just check out the electrical system, perform a eec test, checking for codes, they check the plug wires if any need to be replaced, they replace the spark plugs, and air filter. I would recommend at least removing the spark plugs and maybe putting a bit of antisieze on them, you can do this yourself if you wish. The only reason I recommend this is because with todays aluminum heads the plugs can sieze in the head and pull the threads of the head out with them, if you leave them in there too long. yea, really they recommend a timing belt on them at 100,000kms...but personally, seeing that it is a freewheeling engine, I would probably hold out a little longer...my focus when to 140,000kms with the original timing belt, and it still looked like it was in pretty good shape at that point. i havnt seen any customers with a broken timing belt on a focus yet...but I have seen quite a few on ford escorts with high kms. |
