Zx3 Alternator - MAlby7 - 05-26-2004

What are the ratings for the stock alternator on my 2000 ZX3? I will soon have a system that uses about 100 amps so I want to figure out if I have to get a new alternator. If so where could I get one and how much am I looking at price wise?

100A is peak right not root mean square?

I'm pretty sure the stock one is well under 100A, 55A comes to mind. It was years ago, when I was on FJ, but there was an bigger alternator available, 65 I believe.

You probably know that whatever extra power goes to drive the alternator takes away from the drivetrain. Another way to go is a second battery in the trunk I guess? possibly a deep cycle marine battery? but then there is a weight penalty.

Probably not much help, I'm not a big ICE man as you can probably tell.
