Depending on where you drive and how much. I found cleaning mine before winter and after winter good enough for me. Now that Im parking th efocus for winters I will just clean or get a new filter every season.

What kind of filter? Is it a kn cone filter? If not becareful cleaning it.. Some "cheap" intakes can be ruined if cleaned the wrong way. Meaning you will open the pores and allow crap into the manifold and eventually into the engine.
