Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - cornflakes - 03-28-2009 Okay so i might go with 15 inch wheels instead. The question is do i go for 15x6.5 or 15x7.5? They are both 40+mm offset (so i don't know if that is bad news or not when it comes to rubbing....cuz i wanted 45+mm to be safer). BUT my car is not lowered and i don't plan on lowering it....so will I be 100% safe from inner and outer rubbing if i go with a 15x7.5 wheel for my stock car? I'm thinking of putting 225/50/15 wheels on the 15x7.5 or is that too wide? Should I go with 205/50/15s to be safe? Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - Tiketz - 03-28-2009 I say 15x7.5 205/50/15s to be safe? Your going to be taller with that 205/50R15 Try a 205/45R15 Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - Canadian ST - 03-28-2009 Scorcher000,Mar 27 2009, 11:03 PM Wrote:cornflakes,Mar 27 2009, 08:02 PM Wrote:Okay so i might go with 15 inch wheels instead. What size rim are do you have now? 205/50/15 has a smaller sidewall then stock 15 tire size for the Focus. It would also look funny having a 45 series tires on a 15inch rim on a car that is not going to be lowered. For example ... for me with my new rims and tires it was all about how they would work on the track - effectiveness, weight, and cost were my primary drivers ... looks was way down the list. So far you've looked at 16" Rota's - your sig still says you want 17" EAPs and now you're considering 15" rims ... and then you also say that lowering the car isn't an option ... I think we all want to help out if we can, but I for one am really confused as to what it is you're trying to achieve with your car. And frankly, no disrespect intended, but I think you might be too. Perhaps you should take a step back and really think about your objectives again for the overall car, and then get back into the "what should I do" mode. Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - cornflakes - 03-29-2009 sorry gotta change my sig lol Yeah for 15" i don't think doing 205/45/15 is good at all...short side sidewall on 15inch will look odd esp. that my car is not lowered. 205/50/15 is the best bet but i was told that is a short wheel...stock 15 inch is supposed to be 195/60/15 which is taller. They'd have to keep the OD all the same with all the Focuses or else they would have to reflash each individual ECU when putting a different tire/rim on. Now I know that you looking at 15" here but there is maybe half a cm difference between a 205/50R15 and a 205/50R16. So there shouldn't be much of a difference between the 2 15" Tires. I was only saying before going with the smaller sidewall is because you get less roll then the taller one. Figured since your looking for track wheels you'd want some track worthy tires too. This is for anyone that doesn't know what the numbers stand for. Not saying that any of you don't. 205 (mm across the tread) 50 (% of the tread) R (radial) 15 (Circumference of the Bead and Rim Hieght) Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - Scourge - 03-31-2009 Scorcher000,Mar 28 2009, 07:31 PM Wrote:I believe a 205/50R15 is going to be the same OD as the 195/60R15. Nope. 205/50/15 is 23" OD and the 195/60/15 is 24.2" OD. -George Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - Scorcher000 - 03-31-2009 So not much difference then. Missed a couple of steps here: 205/50/15 = 23.08" total wheel height = 72.46" circumference 195/60/15 = 24.22 total wheel height = 76.05 circumference The difference is 3.59" or 4.95%. At 100 kph your speedo will be out by almost 5 kph - that IMO is a pretty substantial difference. Now ... if you meant 205/50/16 - that's a different story - then it's reasonably close. Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - GFXjamie - 03-31-2009 Running 205/50/15s wont be an issue, i am putting on 205 50 r 15 azenis in 2 weeks, its a bit of a diff on speedo but it will help with off the line acceleration, just not good for top end or gas mileage on long runs doing a good clip Tough Question About 15 Inch Rims - Scorcher000 - 03-31-2009 Ken thnx for the info. It's really not much of a difference really. And just to mess some of you up I forgot to mention that most Manufactors messure from the carcass and not the finished product, that way they can apply different types of treads on with out having to make new molds. |
