... probably the wrong way to do this, but it worked! (Clear Side Markers 2005 ZX5) - scottmcleod - 07-03-2010

Somebody said this involved removing body panels, but I had no luck with the bottom plate, so I decided to do it without removing the front clip...

Passenger side was easy-peasy. Jack car up, reach in from under bumper (long narrow arms help...), 13mm(?) ratchet for speed nuts, push firmly on pegs, and out pops the light. Those clips at the corners are merely to hold it in place, and cannot really be pried back...

The driver's side was a bigger hassle, unfortunately.

1) Remove fanguard (3 phillips screws)
2) Remove front grille (2 bolts (10mm?) + 2 clips that you have to pinch and lift the centres to remove them)
3) Remove 2 bolts on headlight, and wiggle headlight forward and slightly up to get it off of side body clip, and lower peg.

Once headlight is off, it's just a matter of reaching in, taking off the lamp socket (FIRST), and wrapping it in something to protect it and not touch the bulb...

... then using a combination wrench to remove the speed nuts, as you have very little room to work. Nothing special on this side, just a whole hell of a lot less room to work in.

Anyways! Forgot to take pics during, so here's some pics after.

Now you need to take it all apart again and put some amber bulbs in there. Looks good though.

Ennnh. I've got them in my glovebox. These ones are pretty damn amber, thanks to being incandescents.

I thought the ontario law only specified that you must have reflective surfaces on the side of the car, not what colour they must be?

... and my real plan was actually to order some amber LEDs to go in the place, rather than ugly amber incandescents.

scottmcleod, even with the law in place, manufacturers dont care, they still produce and sell them because there is a consumer demand, they can easily get away with that by stating their for "off road use only" and bypass all legalities.

The ones pictured here have no reflectors in them, but there ones that caught my interest which were made by a different company, and the lenses were made out of reflectors, just like the OE ones, but were made in clear white.

The rear surface of the lamp reflects superbright actually. I was trying to push the lamp in and accidentally shone my flashlight light into it and caught a blast of 5w LED reflection in the face...

Does the law require a front surface reflector, or just a reflective surface?

EDIT: They reflect in a different way, but not a surface reflector. FML. I'll find some kind of solution to this.
EDIT #2: The solution was to buy these instead. Frak. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300388819041&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

EDIT: #3: Canadian tire sells silver reflective circles. My car is silver. EPIC WIN??!
