immobilizer issue - fire_ball82 - 08-06-2010

Yesterday while driving on the QEW my engine shuts off and will not even crank turn over nothing. so i get it towed to the nearest garage guy hooks it up and says its the immobilizer. its eather shorted out or has some wiring issue. so whats my best bet here can i buy an after market immobilizer or do i have to get ford to replace it?

HUH immobilizer? The car turned off while you were driving it right. Did you have a passenger in the car if they move around alot maybe they hit the fuel pump cut off switch. I wouldn't trust that shop your gonna end up with a huge bill get CAA and tow it to a Dealer ship or someone else. Let me guess the tow truck guy knew a good shop in that area right

no the garage i had taken it to was a family friend and i had no passenger in the car. that was one of my first guesses was the fuel shut off somehow, but nope it wasn't. u think i should take it to the dealer? is it possible to get an aft market one or u gotta stick with wht ya got?

Perhaps the problem is the chip in the key itself ... if you have a second key, try it ... and you might also try going through the process of programming the keys.

if it was the key itself would the computer still read that the immobilizer is f**ked up?

The immobilizer system includes the chip in the key ... so it's just one of the components of the immoblizer system that could cause it to malfunction. It seems like you could use more info about how the system works ... here's a good overview of how the system works
