Anyone with baking experience? - andrewsfm - 08-21-2010

Looking for someone who's baked tail lights before to open them up for me in the GTA.

Beyond that I will do the rest and reseal them.

It's real easy. Just don't let your wife catch you with them in the oven. I got away it because I told her I would clean the oven after I was done. LOL

I'm just worried about melting something so I wanted someone with experience to maybe give me a hand. I've read some posts on it, but I seem to be cursed when it comes to heat and plastic.

200 for 10 min test the adhesive and then pop it back in for 5min more.

No longer then 20min or you will melt them but not like a puddle of plastic but a disfigured mounting brakets is more likely to happen.

Why the tail lights? Most bake and paint the headlights.

because they have that gay chrome inside the 08+ tailights if you dont have the sport package. should do headlights at the same time to

I'm getting the black projector headlights, and want the tails to match, that's why I'm looking to bake the tails.

I keep forgetting about the 08+. I live in a 1st gen world. LOL

My worries is that everyone says a different temp and time.

If I knew what type of plastic they are (ABS I'm guessing?) then I could google the melting point and make sure not to go over that.

My oven would be the one in the kitchen. lol

DUDE WTF!!! its not a ronco oven, you don't set it and forget it! Big Grin

just leave it in there and watch it! you know just like the old pizza commercial! around 7min open the oven take one out and have a look to see. if they are getting warm then its good, if not leave it for couple of more minutes. Turn off the oven and leave one tail in there while you work on the other one. Take it a part(shouldn't take more then 1min) then go to oven and take the other one out and work on it! Smile

Once you are done get the banana bread that your wife made and put in the oven, no need to preheat the oven anymore bc your taillights just came out of that!!!!
