Rear Svt Sub-frame Swap - Focus man. Focus. - 04-27-2010

So it looks as if I am doing a complete SVT rear sub frame swap on my 02 ZX5. Am I going to require new rear e-brake cables for this? I would assume that these are different from Drum to Disc, yes? Also I am going to need upper strut mounts. This rear sub-frame doesn't have the springs and I was going to swap over my Eibach springs from the suspension I am currently running. These will work if I am not mistaken.

What else should I be prepared for? Has anybody done this complete change over and not just the rear brake swap?

holy work batman.

your springs will work fine as the suspension in the rear hasnt changed from 00-07 and only did slightly in the 08+

are you getting the adjustable rear subframe and all from FRPP?

im not sure about the ebrake cable as that would be something ken would likely know.

have fun!

This is coming out of an SVT, not the Ford Racing replacement sub-frame. Caliper to Caliper.

I just figured that replacing everything would be easier than removing the LCA's and having the bushings pushed out and new ones pressed in. This way I get rear disc's to replace the crappy drum brakes and everything else when I am at it. As far as I can see it will only be around 10 bolts to get the whole thing out in one piece, 4 on the sub-frame, 4 on the trailing arms, and the other 2 being the struts. It shouldn't take more than 1 day to do the re-and-re. I should be able to do this in the driveway with a good impact gun and fair size compressor.

will be a bit heavy however tho. likely would need a second hand to hold it all up and have everything aligned. i know everything needs to be 100% straight or you will have some crazy handling characteristics in the rear

Maybe I missed it, but are you going to rear discs at the same time? If so you will definitely need new e-brake cables - - and you will also need new rear flex lines as the OE SVT setup is 2 pieces per side vs. 1 long one for the SVT upgrade kit (which is essentially the same as the single flex line per side of the 05+ ST.

Ok, so far I have disassembled the brake parts off the rear sub-frame. Cleaned up the calipers and brackets and given them a coat of freah paint. I need to pick up the 05 rear flex lines, handbrake cables and a new set of pads. I will post pic's tomorrow of my progress.

John, I still need that rear caliper tool.

RE: Rear Svt Sub-frame Swap - Focus man. Focus. - 05-07-2010

Gonna have more time for this project. I was made redundant at work today. I just need the weather to be nice for me. Anybody know where I can pick up an inespensive 2 ton jack and a couple stands. I keep checking the fliers and nobody has them on sale. I have a small trolly jack currently but I need something a little bigger now. Maybe I will go tool shopping tomorrow. I need to find something to do with my time. LOL

So since I have a lot of free time now a days I have been putting a lot of work on to cleaning up what I have. I think all I need now is a set of rotors, pads, 1 piece flex hoses off an 05 ST(correct me if I am wrong), e-brake cables, and a couple struts. Here is a few pic's of my progress so far.

I have also touched up the calipers a bit.

I expect the swap to be done in the coming week or so.

I used the same paint on my front calipers and haven't had any trouble. Ford Blue engine paint. They should be fine.

Question, are there Stainless Steel brake lines available for your application?

I would see about that upgrade as well.
