smoke from brakes - adamzx5 - 03-02-2013

So on my way home today , i was turning off the hwy and had to stop at the light. I noticed smoke coming from the front left of the car , my car has no leaks anywhere in that area from what I can see and I have noticed a smell before but it only seems to happen after braking . So anybody ever had this or any clues on wtf it is?

I have this after a hard track run. I suspect perhaps your brakes are binding or something is wrong. They should NEVER smoke under normal braking conditions. Unless your pretending to be Ken Block through city streets.

I would pull the caliper and check for leaks around the piston.

Im going to test them out tomorrow with the take your hands off the wheel and brake a see what way she pulls. The only time i go ken block with the focus is when its wet and im in round abouts lol

figured it out yet??

first cause will be a stuck caliper.
focus is using floating, means..outer pad slides on surface. it needs to be cleaned(no corrosion, no rust)and lubricated.

or

wheel cylinder itself is seized.

Yea im just going to replace both calipers.

if piston is not leaking, you could simply grab wire brush and clean up sliding surface.

It was the driver side , and she was leaking. What a pita , it took me forever to realize where the smoke was coming from I thought it might have been just some oil from the valve cover gasket getting on the header but it didnt have the smell of burning motor oil. Good thing the wind was blowing the way it did that day it kinda narrowed it down a bit.
