Maintenance Check Ups - Raypro - 09-10-2008

I called my Ford dealer today as I got an automated message from them saying I'm due for a check-up, I called them back and the only thing I'm due for now at 90,000km's is an oil change and tire rotation which I go elsewhere for. He tells me just to call back when I hit 100k as I'll be due for spark plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve and some other things I don't remember that he says will amount to $500. This sounds like a stupid price to me but what I'm wondering is do I need to go to the dealer for this check-up even though I'm still under warranty until 120k? Or can I just find out everything that's due for a change and get it elsewhere and still have my warranty valid?

^^^ yes - you can even do it yourself - nothing on that list that couldn't be done in the driveway or garage with the possible exception of the fuel filter. By law there's nothing in the warranty that compels you to have the dealer do the work; always a good idea though to keep your receipts. Check your owners manual for the complete list of items to be checked.

Ken's right, every 50,000KM you do a; Trany (auto), Fuel filter, Air filter change, Rotation of Tires, check sparks and wires/coils, Oil(when if it's ready), Check Brakes, Timing belt(Zetec 80,000KM), Ussual stuff. At 100,00KM Everything the same plus Cooling flush and A/C Check up. Keep all documents just incase something were to happen and they become pricks.

right on. Is the timing chain hard to change? I can get the part for like $50. It's for an '05 ST 2.3L

So I should order spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, fuel filter, timing chain? Then do a coolant flush? Anything I need to do for standard tranny? I just put in a K&N CAI so air filter is good.

it's a timing belt, not chian. if you read your owners guide, it really dose not need to be changed untill 160,000 or 4 years, same with the spark plugs. you can get away with 200,000 before doing a timing belt change if you keep your car in top running condition, I can say that as I just did mine @ 223,000 mainly because it just started showing signs of age.

Duratec's have a timing chain, Zetec's have a timing belt

yes, the timing belt/chain will be a big job. Block out a good 4-5 hours for the install for a 1st timer.

The timing change in the Duratec 2.3 shouldn't need to be changed until at least 200,000 kms. That's the advantage to a chain... I know my Mazda doesn't need it done until then, if I remember correct.

The chain is going to be a bitch, I'm planing on doing mine at 150 cause the way I drive can't have bad things happen to the engine now lol. Like he said atleast 4-5 hours. I've done DOHC belts before and they are a pain in the nuts as well.

Sure, you can do it. But it is a chain. You don't have to do it like a belt. It is designed to be maintenance free, like your crankshaft and cam shaft bearings. It was designed to not be replaced, unlike the belt in a Zetec.

Check out the maintenance schedule on here: http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservi...fault?page=Home They don't even list timing chain on the 2005+ Focus as a replacement item in the schedule.

The only time I'd replace it would be at about 250,000 kms, and I was about to add boost. :D

Save your money and time, and buy something fun for the car... :lol:

I'm in Sudbury, ON.

That's good to know about the timing chain then. I won't bother with it then. At least the other items I need to get done are nice and cheap.

Ya, me and my mechanic were going though all of his contacts trying to figure it out and like you said not listed at all. It should be change at 200,000KM but I'm not all that trusting, like I said around 150 i'll change mine and add some Cosworth pieces to the puzzle lol.
